Shree Bhoga Nandishwara Temple

Reviewed By Dattakhade - Bengaluru, India

An excellent day out for a Sunday. If you stay in Bangalore then you must take a family outing for a half a day or full day. Its about 60km Marathahhali. Although, you can take the new airport road to reach here, I suggest you to take the Whitefield-kadugodi-Buddhigere-Devanhalli road. The route is through local villages and quite scenic. If you want to have a long-drive experience, you can stop over at Nandi Upachar(this is at Nandi Hills junction on NH7) on the way for a mouth watering breakfast and march further. About the temple itself. The temple architecture is beautiful and has lot of beautiful carvings. It has a big pond inside the campus. You can dip your legs in to it and experience foot massage as the small fishes gather near your feet and try to eat the dirt. The temple has huge lawn. You may carry your food and have it there. Just be bit careful with monkeys. If seeing just one site is not enough then visit Devanhalli Fort as well. Nothing much to do there but adds a tick mark in your places visited.

Gudibande Fort

Reviewed By smewar - Bengaluru, India

We started around 12 noon from HSR , packed our home made lunch. I initially thought to have lunch near the lake but we were late so had to stop before. The road is overall good on NH 7 . The last detour from NH towards the village is little narrow but it's still good for drive. We can park our car just below the Fort climb. It's a decent climb up with good view at multiple places. We went with out 2.5 year old son so had to lift him up. The view at the top near the temple is magnificent. Apparently this fort is 400 year old and at the top is one of the Jyotirlinga too. Make sure you carry enough water esp if it's sunny. There are few monkeys also at the top. Overall it's a beautiful hiking place.

Nandi Hills

This was once the summer retreat of Tipu Sultan. It’s a good place for hiking and birding. The hill also has temples dating back to the Chola period. It gets extremely crowded on weekends. The hills offer great views of the surroundings, though.

The roads are so well maintained and even though it’s single lane, it’s worth the drive especially for an early morning sunrise experience. Weekend gets the most crowd but with easy accessibility, one can see hikers, bikers and others alike. The view of sunrise above the clouds is awe-inspiring with a cool temperature, also there is food so one can get a compete hill station experience.

Kalavara Durga (Skandagiri)

Reviewed By BhugonDe

Night trek at Skandagiri, reaching the peak to view the Sunrise, is an amazing experience. Starting at around 3:30am from the foothill, looking for where to put your next step in the torchlight, and climbing sometimes easy to sometimes very difficult rocks, completes the magic. While it’s mentioned as moderate difficulty, many a times it seemed quite difficult for non-regular trekker. Do practice caution if it’s drizzling or raining, as loose sand & rocks get slippery. It’s worth all the trouble, when you reach the peak while it’s still dark, and then watch the sky changing the colors before it culminates Sun rising in the horizon. With the exhaustion of trek and the chill in wind, nothing you’d enjoy more than a cup of tea in hand with gaze fixed eastwards (carry the flask yourself :-)). Summary, must visit for trekking enthusiasts.

Avalabetta

Reviewed By columbus1964 - Bengaluru, India

This is a nice one day outing. Preferable to go early in the morning. There is ample car park at the entry. Road is good from NH side. One can take a leisurely walk all the way up. There is shortcut by steps, but I prefer the road route. Less stressful, shade is there and you can view far away. One can also mix the routes. Take enough water and food. Nothing on the way. Great especially after rainy season
