Mt Beautiful Winery Tasting Room

The Mt. Beautiful Tasting Room is adjacent to the Two Rivers Cafe located in central Cheviot, and features a beautifully renovated, light and airy space that preserves historic aspects of its original structure, while incorporating indigenous materials and other elements from the Mt. Beautiful vineyard estate. A long, clean concrete slab counter runs North to South with a walkthrough gap in the middle representing the iconic “Chasm” that runs through the vineyard, separating it into Northern and Southern sections. Guests may choose to stand for a tasting at the counter, or take a seat at one of the many beautiful and locally-crafted macrocarpa or oak tables featuring wood milled from trees grown on the vineyard. Individual tastes of wine are available, but guests are encouraged to experience the breadth of Mt. Beautiful’s portfolio, which includes five estate grown varietals; Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir. Reservations are not required, however, it's suggested that groups of 10 or more call in advance. Driving Distances: Christchurch » Cheviot: 112 km – 90 min Kaikoura » Cheviot: 67.9km – 60 min Hanmer » Cheviot: 93.6km – 90 min

Popped in here for a quick wine tasting and ended up staying an hour. My husband isn't a "wineie" so kept me company with a gorgeous coffee. Bough a bottle of the pinit and chardonnay, should have bought the rose too, it was delicious. The name does not disappoint, beautiful place and beautiful wine!

Gore Bay

A wonderful place to camp. The beach can be wild but a great place to bogey board or swim. If you are camping try and book a sea view site, there are a couple of camping areas. A number of walks in and around the bay. There is no cell phone coverage so you can really enjoy it. The sea is ever changing. Cheviot is the nearest town for any last minute supplies, it is only abut 10 minutes away with a number of cafes and a small supermarket an excellent butcher and hardware shop. The gift shop is also a very interesting place to browse through and purchase.

Such a peaceful and beautiful site for a cementary. A quick walk from Gore Bay along the beach and winding up the hill. Well worth a visit.

St Anne's Lagoon

Reviewed By chef165 - Christchurch, New Zealand

St Anne's Lagoon is an excellent place to stop and relax on a long car drive between Christchurch and Kaikoura. Just a few minutes north from Cheviot it offers many quiet parking spots around the lagoon where you can stretch your legs, eat at the tables provided, go to the toilet and truly relax as you enjoy the tranquil lake-like scenery and diverse waterfowl. Spring bulbs were in full flower on a cloudless day and there was just the gentlest of breezes blowing through the trees which were all in bud. It was one of those places where you simply MUST take a few photos.
