Double Decker Living Root Bridge

Reviewed By Shashwati R

The double decker root bridge is definitely unique and the hike is quite beautiful too - if you're up for it. The first and last part of the trek are the most difficult, with about 1500 steep, continuous steps down a hill that keep going on and on. After that, you come across a village and the steps are a little more staggered. Then, you cross two streams, one on a shaky, narrow cable bridge and one on a broader, steadier bridge. And then you climb about 1/3 of another hill and THEN you reach Nongriat, the village where the double decker root bridge is located.
Both bridge and journey are beautiful with mountainous vistas, pristine streams and dense jungle. But getting there definitely requires both mental and physical stamina, so know your physical limits and come prepared. Water and snacks are available on the way, and there is maggi at Nongriat. Good sports shoes are essential for the tourist, and hiking sticks, which you can rent for Rs.20 at the entrance, are highly recommended. Guides are also available for Rs.600 but for just the root bridge, they're really not necessary because there is just one defined path.
It took us about 2 hours to go down and 2.75 hours to come down but we saw younger groups (one member of our party was in her fifties) go down in about an hour and come back in 1.5 hours.

We visited the falls in February first week, and this was the only fall in Cherrapunji which had some water, although the view is distant, unless you decide to trek down to the base. There are shops selling snacks and cut fruits like pineapple.

If you are interested in caving then only Meghalaya has that to offer. It is open till 5PM so reach before that as the sunsets really fast in east. The part of caves opened for tourist is small and can easily be completed in 30mins. Watch out for the limestone growth while walking and wear sturdy shoes and dress.

Arwah Cave

Reviewed By trekkerMangalore - Mangalore, India

Frankly, Iwas not truly prepared for this experience. I have visited some truly magnificent cave systems in the U.S and didn’t expect something so good here in India. I expected some thing like a hole in a wall cave, but what greeted me when I went in was totally unexpected. It is located just before Sohra town in Chirapunjee. There was a mud track which went on for a couple of kilometers. After buying your entry tickets we followed a cobblestone and a neatly fenced path along the edge of the mountain. It was well shaded because it was a path through a picturesque forest. The view was also amazing. We found the entrance to the cave to be very clean. There was a young guide who greeted us with a smile and took us in with a flashlight. The cave was also lit up with fluorescent light along the way. He pointed out the stalactites, mica deposits and the various fossil imprinted on the soft limestone rocks. In places it narrow and slippery and in some we had to bend low and mind our heads. We learnt that Meghalaya has some of the deepest and longest cave systems in India are these caves were opened to the public only in 2014. It was a really good experience and I would strongly recommend this site if you happen to visit Chirapunjee or

Ka Khoh Ramhah

Reviewed By dsudipto79 - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

The road from seven sister Waterfalls to the Khoh Ramhah is in very condition and is crying for government attention. The place is nothing but a rock monolith, probably created due to flowing water source. There is myth/story attached to it, which you will enjoy.
A small park is constructed with small Bridges over flowing rivulet. There is a bino cooler to watch the Bangladesh borders, for a fee. As we were carrying our own bino cooler, we enjoyed the view as per our term.

Sa-I-Mika Park

Reviewed By prabalmall - Pondicherry, India

While in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya for our Alumni Meet, we decided to stay at Sa-I-Mika, based on the recommendation and experience of one of our friends.
And what an experience it was ! The place is designed like a set straight out of a Western Movie ! The place is on a rocky surface with a couple of gurgling streams at the back.
There are cottages made as per local Khasi architecture and well furnished.
Our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. The evenings were momentous with a campfire behind the cottages, with the background music of gurgling water.
The staff was well trained and friendly. The food was well presented and good.
And of course, there was the typical friendly pet dog called Chin-Chinia !
Overall a wonderful experience.
We will highly recommend this place for a great and different experience....
