For all that's it's a very historic store, none of that history is on display inside the store. It's a very heavily stocked gift store with a wide variety of goods. You could easily find a gift for anyone here.

The Purple Cat Winery

Reviewed By bim55 - Boston suburbs

A group of us went for the first time and were really impressed with the wine itself as well as the location. The staff were nice, fun to talk to and knowledgable on the wines.

The building is a pretty cool old barn with great beams, trusses and levels. There was a pretty good looking snack bar (or bakery) a playhouse and a piano player while we visited.

The winery offered home made wines from mostly California and some Rhode Island grapes. The teasing pours were generous and I think 10 or so different wines depending on whats available. A great deal at I think $12 per person.

We'll be back as this is only a short drive from where we live.

Burrillville Spring Lake Beach

The beach has closed for the season

Reviewed By fcl394 - Harrisville

We arrived at 10 am and the beach was not too crowded. The kids ages 5, 4 and 4 really love the slide in the water. The beach is very clean. The lifeguards seem attentive. The only complaint I have is the number of buses and kids that arrived at 11:45. ( about 7 busloads). The beach became so crowded that we decided to leave. There were easily over 100 kids. They should really put a limit on the number of kids from camps.

Wright's Chicken Farm Gift Shop

Reviewed By Z-OC-Family - Boston, Massachusetts

It's sorta like that, in terms of noise. But if you can get around the inability to have a conversation over the sound of tables being cleared quite loudly, the food is good. The chicken, which is what they're known for, is moist, tender, and falls off the bones. It's all family style, so there's a lot on the table, and with the chairs pretty close together, it can get ... cozy? Crowded? Cramped? The latter if you've a wheelchair at your table, so try to ask for a table large enough to spread out both the chairs and the place settings. For vegetarians, this is not going to be your favorite place. Everything besides the chicken is ok. But that's it: just ok. It's salad and pasta and French fries and rolls. The salad comes with dressing already on it and in most cases at our table, it was too much dressing. The pasta had pepper in the red sauce, but that's it. No depth there, very plain. The rolls were ok. The fries were thick cut and just ok. Service was very attentive and super fast (which likely yielded more noise). It is handicapped accessible although the ramp is very steep. (It's hard to see in my photo, but the ramp is in the shady corner of the building.) There's no auto-door opener button, so you need someone to come along and help with the doors. There was good handicapped parking, tho, and the guard at the entrance to the parking lot gave excellent directions as to the best place to park. Finally, you need reservations, and they make you wait to be seated until everyone in your party is there.

Barden Family Orchard

Reviewed By Tim J - Providence, Rhode Island

We came across this Orchard through the RI scavenger hunt, though our first time they were closed so we had to wait about a month to actually see what they had to offer. Despite it being early October there was a pretty good amount of foot traffic (we realize later that they were doing free tractor drawn hayrides for kids and had just brought out a large batch of fresh cider) and quite a large selection of apples. From the title of this review you could probably guess which batch stood out to my fiancee and I.

We'd never seen Honey Crisp in RI, and the gentleman stocking the apples explained to us that they had actually started in Minnesota and were slowly growing in popularity throughout the US. Barden Family were the first to plant the crop in RI, and that was why they were able to offer apple picking for it as well as sell it in the amount they were. I'd never tasted one before, and it really was something else, a type of subtle sweetness that is very enjoyable (not to mention the apples were enormous).

Outside they had a pumpkin patch of sorts and a rather large area to walk around while sipping cider or munching on sample of different apples. The only reason that this did not get five stars is the parking tends to be a little bit tricky the first (or second) time you go and try to find which exit to pull into. The people are great though, the Orchard is beautiful and if you go with your family you will have fun.

Southwick's Zoo

Reviewed By Coral G - Winchendon, Massachusetts, United States

We visited the zoo on a Monday in September. It was nice and quiet. The Skyway was running so we took a ride. It was wonderful. No bumps along the way. We saw most of the park's wildlife. There's also a train, but we didn't ride it. You can feed and pet the herd of deer; there's a petting area for adorable goats; the staff provide informational sessions; there are shows. Each type of animal is explained via a board at the exhibit area. The board includes a map as to where the animal lives, the age span and size, whether the species is endangered and to what extent, and other information. The aviary is wonderful!. You can feed the parakeets. They fly onto your shoulder, or in my case, my hat. Although the zoo is not huge, it has a good variety of animals. What made an impression on me was the quality of care the animals receive. You can tell that the members of the staff really love the animals. The areas are well-maintained and clean. All animals had plenty of water and food. I look forward to returning soon.

Beautiful theater. We saw "A Christmas Carol" and it was a great show. Our seats were in the upper section and we could see the entire show clearly and without any obstruction. We arrived an hour ahead of time and did not have a problem finding a municipal parking space. We will be visiting the Stadium for future shows.

Mulberry Vineyard

Reviewed By Michelle H - Stafford Springs, Connecticut

Mulberry Vineyards in Chepachet, Rhode Island is a relatively new winery, opened for about a year. The young couple who own it, David Wright and his charming wife, welcome you to their rustic, yet comfortable, tasting room overlooking the surrounding forest. They are more than eager to tell you about their vineyards and their project for expansion to five more acres of vineyards in the near future. Currently they have only two wines, a white Reisling for $20 and a red Pinot Noir for $24. The Pinot is made in French oak barrels. The tasting is free and includes little slices of cheese with crackers. The welcoming atmosphere and personal touch make it worth visiting when you're in the area.
