What to do and see in Charleston, South Carolina (SC): The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

April 25, 2022 Viva Honore

Historic Charleston is bursting with Southern charm and hospitality. The city feels a bit like it’s suspended in time, thanks to its antebellum architecture and surrounding plantation landscapes. Take in incredible views of the Battery and the French Quarter as you stroll the Waterfront Park, then become inspired by the cultivated beauty of the gardens at Middleton Place. At night, try a ghost tour for an introduction to the spooky side of the city.

We found so many gift ideas here for those who have everything and hard to buy for. The lady working in there is so knowledgeable and friendly, and we consider this shop one of our favorite stores in Charleston. Our group visited twice during our stay and picked up some fantastic gifts for Christmas plus some things for ourselves. You should go check it out.

The Hidden Countship

Welcome to The Hidden Countship: Italian Boutique for Fine Living. We work directly with Italian artisans to bring the finest products from luxury furniture, linens, jewelry, stationery, ceramics, fine clothes, and many more specialties from Italy to your home.

The Hidden Countship is about a half block off of King Street, on Burns Lane, really an alley. They do have dedicated parking, which is nice. I went there looking for something very specific, reproductions of pictures of Tuscan gardens done as "lunettes," or half-circles. They are hard to find. I believe the Hidden Countship has more of them, in several sizes, than I have wall space for. While I was there I also purchased a glass intaglio pendant in the same style but at a much more affordable price than a very well known and very expensive designer who frequently advertises in shelter magazines. At that point I had parted with a significant amount of my budget, but I would have been pleased to take home their Italian linens, porcelains/ceramics, bas reliefs, garden statues, decorative paper wares, shawls, jackets and vintage jewelry. The lovely shop attendant was very helpful with shipping, and I was pleased at the very affordable cost. This shop is always peaceful, and doesn't seem very "touristy." It must be a labor of love for the owner, and a favorite of Charleston residents.

Indigo

Indigo's 20+ years in business have been a journey of creative growth for us, always with the goal of discovering a fabulous ever-changing product mix to delight our customers. Indigo began as a tiny business next to Magnolia restaurant on East Bay in the early 1990's and we took it over, transforming it from imports and antiques to a shop that offers eclectic household and personal items, original art and delightful gifts. Back in those days, business was conducted with an old timey cash register, and handwritten receipts! We soon outgrew that little bitty East Bay space, made some tech advances, and moved into our current location on Vendue Range with the Harbor View Inn as our frien

The Tavern At Rainbow Row

Serving Charleston since 1686, The Tavern at Rainbow Row is the oldest liquor store in the America located next to the Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon.

Reviewed By Shelliu - Hilton Head, United States

The Tavern is the oldest commercial building in Charleston and longest continuously operating establishment serving alcohol (since the 1600s). There is a trap door where they served during prohibition which was neat to see. The shop is small and definitely worth visiting.
