What to do and see in Chamonix, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes: The Best Other Outdoor Activities

May 30, 2021 Darwin Bolte

As host of the first Winter Olympics in 1924, Chamonix will always have a place in the history books. Its main attractions are Mont-Blanc (Western Europe's tallest mountain) and the many ski areas that face the Chamonix Valley. Steep slopes and extreme weather conditions suit advanced skiers best, but there are also runs for beginners. Just make sure everyone in your party knows a green circle from a black diamond. Oh, and another note for the history books—Pierce Brosnan was here (filming a James Bond movie, The World Is Not Enough).

Les Ailes du Mont-Blanc paragliding school is a team of passionate pilots and instructors, who love to share their passion for free flight with students and passengers alike. The school is powered by Sandie Cochepain ex paragliding world champion which is the guaranty of a hight level of teaching. Some of our students became also champion among the french team... The team will take you on a journey in the world of free flying. From spectacular tandem flights around the Chamonix valley, teaching you to take your first solo flights through to cross country flying and high mountain “para-alpanisme”, such as from Mt. We’ve been to la forêt magique with our small kids (age 4 and 6) lots of times. It’s in a nice shady spot when Cham gets hot and is open most of the year with a great starter trail for kids age 3+. The owner is super friendly and really puts the kids at ease when he explains the climbing kit. Great way to spend a few hours.
