The Eau d'Heure Lakes

Reviewed By abelgiantourist1971 - Belgium

On one of the many public holidays in May, we decided to go here for a nice walk. For anyone's good comprehension, we did not go to Landal and did not use any of the privately owned activities, just wanted to go for a walk......
First of all, the walk around the lake is not too clearly indicated and the path is located very close to the road where the cars are driving.....and this is very first remark.
On this nice May day, we had the impression that bikers were organizing a race here....not really very nice when you're accompanied by 3 children....
On top of that, the place is just dirty....garbage anywhere, a complete lack of bins and the fact that some tourists do not take their responsability to take their litter with them gives this place a very poor impression.
Finally, having traveled extensivly throughout the UK & Scotland where you have thousands of public foothpaths, with garbage bins practically anywhere....this might be a lesson for the Belgian public tourism organisation, that exploiting a tourist attraction can be done different and MUCH better.....

This is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended. It is a climbing park in the woods. There are different 'tracks' and after a clear instruction, you can choose the level you would like to take. Normally you start with an easy level and gradually work your way up (literally as well, since the height increases).
Even for younger children (measures as standing with their hands in the air, below 1,60 M) there are special tracks. For the dare devils, there is a route over the lake included (Tyro). If you start in the morning, you receive the group price level, as individual. Also, if you have the Carnet Avantages/Voordeelboekje (which is distributed at bungalow parks etc) you can get some extra things for no costs. However, our appetite was satisfied after the tour, and we did not manage the highest level, while others dropped out earlier.
There is a nice Seating area for outside, and drinks and ice to be bought against good prices. There is also other food, but the young and very friendly staff is somewhat tight, so there might be a wait. It is all very friendly and heartily compared to many other locations in this area.
Regarding the time: you can easily spend two to three hours here.

Lunch was crowded, even in mid January, and I understood why when I tasted the home produced beer - excellent - in a country of good beers. The house specialty, akin to pizza, was the best. Interesting small museum in the resto. Altogether a very pleasant visit - well worth seeing, and tasting!

I can't imagine a more perfect place for our residential training! We stayed in the monastery, with the closed fireplace, and the excellent bedrooms, cozy yet big enough for all (9) of us to feel we had our own space. The Domaine is magical: not...MoreI do not quite know what to say after so much satisfaction, I am a little embarrassed. But most important is that you have spent a single moment, unique and rewarding. And thank you for all the encouragement.

Chateau de Chimay

Dating back over one thousand years, Chimay Castle has been the stage of many major events in European history. The 23 counts, princes and dukes who have reigned over the Principality without disruption since 1437 were often major players in these conflicts. You can enjoy visiting the Castle and meeting with its past and present inhabitants thanks to a new, interactive multimedia tour and exciting 3D show. Other delights include a programme ofmusical events, held at the Castle Theatre.

Le Fondry des Chiens

Reviewed By Cimmerianbloke - Overijse, Belgium

A unique place in Belgium, the Fondry des Chiens is a geological accident that produced a complex area of rocks shaped as a canyon. Although small, the place is deep. The place is not secured and can be dangerous, especially for kids. Make sure you wear appropriate hiking shoes. Trails lead to the bottom of the canyon. On the surrounding plains, you'll find Nordic Walking trails and a pic-nic area next to the small car park. Although fires are strictly forbidden, we found evidence of campfires, probably people coming at night to enjoy the sheer beauty of the place. The lovely city of Nismes is a 5 minutes ride away, you'll find all you need food and drinkwise.

Dit museum behandelt vele facetten: gesteenten, paleontologie, architectuur, ambacht, industriële archeologie, sociale geschiedenis ...
De marmers van over de hele wereld zijn er te bewonderen.
