I've been to the Siskel Film Center a few times over the past several years, and I've come to appreciate it as a wonderful venue for interesting and unique films. It's located right on North State Street, just a couple of blocks south of the Chicago River. The film center occupies the second floor of the building; and there is an elevator to take people there in addition to a stairway. The most recent visit was to see a new documentary about Benjamin Marshall, a Chicago architect who designed the Drake Hotel, the Blackstone Hotel, the Edgewater Beach Hotel, and the Schubert Theater, among many other buildings in Chicago in the early 20th century as well as countless buildings across the country. The film was produced by the Benjamin Marshall Society, which also sponsored the showing that was followed by a panel discussion on Benjamin Marshall as well as a nice reception. In the past, I have also viewed other documentaries as well as feature films that are unlikely to appear in local theaters, sponsored by a variety of organizations as well as movie studios. Foreign and experimental films are often on the kiosk. If you're in Chicago for any length of time, you'll want to explore the Siskel Film Center website to see what's playing. (One of the questions below asks if the place is "budget-friendly." The Marshall film, panel discussion, and reception were all free of charge; but one needed to have made a reservation. Other things I've attended have had varying prices; so one needs to check the website.)

The sound, the popcorn, lights, action... Movies are back in theaters! I told the woman scanning tickets I was glad they reopened. She smiled saying she was happy to be back. AMC River East 21 was spotless today. Masked people with excitement in their voices. There were 2 seats on each side of me empty. The row behind empty for the limited capacity. Concessions of fresh popcorn and a drink. Clearly marked signs for mask reminders. Large containers of wipes and hand sanitizer. Here’s to movies!

Clean with greatly spaced out seating. The concessions are delivered to your seat! It was very quickly delivered with the chicken and fries hot! Container was a closed hard covered and fork, knife And napkin also sealed. Hand sanitizer everywhere and the bathroom was also spotless. Everyone I saw had on a mask. Grateful to see a movie again.
