Car-Park right next to castle and I'd plan an hour to walk the grounds and take pictures -- old ruins with upgrades ongoing. Some beautiful pictures of surrounding countryside. We spent 5-min seeing the castle and that was plenty of time -- then walked into the town for lunch. If raining realize all of the castle is open to the elements as this is ruins of a castle. Make sure to watch 10-minute video to get history of who lived in castle.

It's Ireland, so it's likely to have rained in the near past or will rain in the near future. It's a pretty muddy/farmy trek out to the abbey through a field, so I'd recommend bringing suitable shoes.

Im English My partner Irish .. We both loved it .. It gave me a great understanding of english and irish history ..The man who owned this adorable little place was very friendly and very informative on anything we wanted to know,even down to the thatched roof he could not have been nicer ..Well worth a visit ...We were allowed to take as many photos as we wanted unlike some places we visited ..Thank you Janine & Jason :) xx

Bru Boru is a cultural centre located at the foot of the historic Rock of Cashel. It is a regional centre for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. The centre is open year round offering a wide array of facilities and attractions. During the summer months from late June to late August there are live traditional Irish music, song and dance shows every Tuesday to Saturday at 9p.m. visitors can also enjoy a pre-booked show meal in our restaurant.Bru Boru also plays host to the imaginative 'Sounds of History' cultural exhibition. This is a series of self guided audio/visual presentations on our rich Irish culture and heritage.Other facilities in Bru Boru include 250 seated theatre, craft shop, cafe, restaurant, Comhaltas Archive, South Tipperary Genealogy suite, restaurant and bar.

The summer show was the perfect kickoff for our week in Ireland. It was a showcase of Irish music and dance; I would definitely recommend this performance if you are in the Cashel area.

You've probably heard of 'The Rock of Cashel' but did you know that Cashel is also the home of some other rare and valuable objects such as one of the smallest books in the world? The Bolton Library contains a unique collection of antiquarian books and is the finest collection outside of Dublin. The collection contains a wide range of subjects and includes a 12th century manuscript, papyri dating from the 1st century, the Nuremberg Chronicle and works by Dante, Swift, Calvin, Erasmus and Machiavelli to name but a few. Also on display are maps and church silver. Since 1836 the library has been housed in the Chapter House situated on the grounds of the Cathedral Church of St. Patrick's Rock and St. John the Baptist on John Street, Cashel. Also within the grounds are The Old Medieval Town Walls which included the magnificent Hackett Effigies. We offer a guided tour that includes The Bolton Library, The Old Town Walls and Hackett Effigies, and The Cathedral Church of St.Patrick's Rock and St.John The Baptist for just €3 per person. It is well worth a visit!

We visited Bolton library today and received a very warm welcome from the curator, Martin who showed us around providing an informative and entertaining guide to this wonderful place.
The library is fascinating and includes many rare and important books including the smallest book in the world,which our children loved! It is well worth a visit and it is such a shame that it is overlooked by so many visitors to Cashel.
The old city walls are situated in the churchyard around the library and contain some amazing old statues that are also worth a visit.

We arrived too late in the afternoon to visit the Rock so headed to this small museum to fill in time. Entry was free and there were some interesting display boards and a couple of old charters which were hidden away, for protection, under covers- so make sure you lift them up to view them

All well and good, to post up a place, but to put it in completely the wrong place! The rock of Cashel is about 75 miles west of here and not in the same county.
Anyway, it is a great place, really worth a visit, the seat of the high kings of Ireland, and basis for St Patrick and early Irish christianity, though it's not here in Kilkenny, it's in western Tipperary.

Close to the parking lot of the Rock so we walked over.My wife was determined to bring back a real Irish sweater so she browsed a bit and it gave us a feel on the prices and different qualities for a future purchase.The lady running the shop was very helpful and pleasant.

St Mark's Famine Graveyard is located 5 minutes from the center of town. They have created a beautiful memorial to all that lost their lives during the famine. With a lot of hard work it has been transformed into a peaceful, loving memorial where you can spend your time Reading the wall of a thousand names ages 0-?? while saying a prayer for all the lost souls of the famine.
