Kareena Park itself seems to be the heavily forested area between Laguna St and the water. There is a paved path through here and some rougher paths that get close to the water. However, the jewel of this area is the E.G. Waterhouse National Camelia Gardens - enter from the car parks on President Ave or Kareena Rd. These gardens are an amazing find in the suburbs. A very dense botanic gardens-style collection of plants and flowers with quiet paths winding through them and streams rushing down the hill to the duck pond - and there were huge numbers of ducks all over the park. There are a few lawns for picnics and a rose garden, plus a teahouse and a couple of playgrounds (but no dogs or ball games allowed). This is a stunning council-run garden and a must-see if you happen to be in this part of town. Pity it closes at 4pm.

Hairyman is a great place to meet friends and have a beer or two. The staff are very helpful and the boss Andy knows everything you need to know about beer. On weekends they have food trucks which is a bonus. If your in the area do pop in
