Seal Point Lighthouse

Reviewed By Jeanne L - Durban

The building of Seal Point Lighthouse in the 1870's was almost as calamitous as the numerous ships wrecked along Cape St Francis coast. The first builder died; the logistics of reaching the site caused consternation with swamps; mountain ranges or dangerous water blocking the access. Soon after the majestic building was completed the plaster on the internal walls began to peel off and this is still being repaired while the 3 million candle power light flashes every 5 seconds. Despite this bright light ships have still floundered there. Legend has it that Lady Head had a consignment of swans on board. The swans survived and are living on the Komme River. Its well worth a stop - the lighthouse is magnificent from the outside and the views up and down the coast are exhilarating.

St Francis Links

When the first review was submitted on our behalf, they listed St Francis Links as Jack Nicklaus at St Francis Links IN Port Elizabeth. through pretty good promotion and customer awareness, we have managed to get some great reviews and even the 2014 Certificate of Excellence - rated No. 2 with 5-starts behind the great attraction Shamwari. However, we are located outside Port Elizabeth in St Francis Bay. I am very happy with the reviews; however, if your search St Francis Links in St Francis Bay, you will not find us. If you search attractions, it asked for a city...when I search St Francis Bay, South Africa, St Francis Links will not appear. Please advise how I can maximize my presence with tripadvisor. I am not unhappy - just seeking the best Portal.

Friendly efficient and warm welcome. For such a prestigious course the atmosphere was relaxed. The course, varied and pretty challenging in the wind - which I understand was quite calm on the day we played. Lunch with a beer on the balcony following the game chatting to other visiting players. A high light of our trip so far.

During our holidays in Cape St. Francis we did two outstanding day trips with Jasper from Kouga Day Trips. The first was to Tsitsikamma National Park. We visited all the interesting places such as Storms River Bridge, Big Tree, Storms River Village, Bloukrans Bridge and the Bungy jumpers, Storms River Mouth with the famous suspension Bridges. Jasper showed us the vegetation, special mushrooms on tree trunks. He showed us a Loerie bird and dussies, small animals. We would not have noticed all that without him. When we went down to the suspension bridge and the stairs were very steep and narrow he helped us to get down safely. If we had been on our own my husband would have certainly resigned to continue. The second day trip was to Baviaanskloof where you go on dust roads through the Mountains. We did not expect that the dust roads would be so bad with rocks and stones. It was quite an adventure to go up the mountain with the precipice at your side. But I completely trusted Jasper who was an excellent driver. We stopped several times for the marvelous view. We saw beautiful proteas, erika and other flowers and plants. After the Baviaanskloof we went to Kouga Dam where we had a picnic. Jasper was very helpful all the time. He also explained us a lot about South Africa and its problems. We would not have got all the interesting information without him. We were very happy that we did these two excursions with Kouga Day Trips and we would have done more if it was not the end of our holiday. We can definitely recommend Kouga Day Trips for a very personal and private excursion. If we ever come in this area again we will do more excursions with Jasper.

St Francis Safaris

Reviewed By GeorgeB768 - Johannesburg

We went fishing with this operator, the boat only had a crew of one being the captain. The captain did help us once we set anchor but the help was short lived. Captain was on his mobile phone for very long organizing other business affairs. We paid R3750 for 2 adults and 4 kids, our trip was short, 2 hours as some, of the kids were getting queazy. If you do take kids with maybe organise that you pay for a half day trip or a quarter day trip. I think the operator is well aware that kids get sick easily but he is happy to take the cash upfront knowing this and not offering cheaper alternatives. Captain did not offer to take the adults back out to utilise what was paid for.
I think there should he at least one more crew member to assist, specially if children are on the boat.
We got no safety briefing.
We caught fish, captain new exactly where to find the fish. We caught 9 fish in a short while.
We got a short briefing on baiting.
We did here mixed reviews about Tim Cristy, the owner of the operation and the captain that operated our boat. We were told that this is the best guy to find the fish.

Seal point is well worth a visit and allow a few hours. There is a lighthouse that was closed when we were there but I think it is normally open to the public. The nature reserve is worth the time all by it's self.
