What to do and see in Canary Islands, Canary Islands: The Best Things to do

January 20, 2022 Carley Gatson

The sun-drenched Canary Islands lie close to North Africa and have an exotic flavor of their own. Hundreds of volcanoes, rolling sand dunes, rich forests and rugged cliffs dapple these seven Atlantic gems. Catch a ferry to Lanzarote. Ride a camel through volcanic Timanfaya National Park. Take on Tenerife, home of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Romp Grand Canary's beaches or hike La Gomera's Garajonay National Park. More adventures await on tiny El Hierro, verdant La Palma and peaceful Fuerteventura.

Timanfaya National Park

An awe-inspiring stretch of volcanic wasteland: a desolate and bleak monument to the power of Mother Nature.

Reviewed By RicardoBowie - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Timanfaya National Park is the most popular attraction on Lanzarote and for good reasons. A beautiful, wild and rugged landscape that has lava fields, volcanic activities and craters that can be scaled by hikers and walkers who are prepared to go a little further than the the bus tour. An entry fee to the park and the 'official gate' will get you a bus tour (approximately 45 mins) or you can book in advance for a guided walk. Both these methods suit most people. That said, if you want to walk without a guide a good place would be parking at Caldera Blanco and walking into the lava fields from there. Totally free. This can take you to several points in the park. I climbed Caldera Blanco. The parking area is on 'maps'. You can also park in the village of Tianjo. My route took about 3 and a half hours. Circumnavigate top of caldera then back.

We went on a transfer from Playa de las Americas, which doesn't take as long as they say! Fantastic park with so much to see! Highly recommend the tour that they offer you when you go in as you get to see everything behind the scenes as well such as the vets, penguins and go underneath the orca whale tank to see them! They tell you everything about the place as well and will help you to find out which order to do the shows in! Whale and dolphin shows are a must!! Food is above average but fine for snacks and drinks!

This was our first visit to the RanchoTexas theme park and was enjoyed by all of us. The park is very well maintained with beautiful areas to walk around, we loved the Dolphin show, Sea Lions and Birds of Prey displays and the youngsters loved having photographs taken with some of the animals. There is also a water park included in admission which although we did not use it looked fantastic. Lots of eating places and not too expensive either. Only problem we found was that it was not very well sign posted within the park and we spent sometime finding our way around. But only a small thing and didn’t spoil our experience. Loved seeing the white tiger and other wild cats too, enclosures were well maintained and the animals looked well cared for too.

Finca Canarias Aloe Vera

Visit our ecological Aloe Vera plantations. Go through a 5000 year old history of this plant in a guided tour of 30 minutes, in which you can cut an Aloe Vera leaf, taste its pulp and flowers, and of course test all of our Aloe Vera products made from its pure gel. On the southern plantation, located near Gran Tarajal, we have about 2000 Aloe Vera plants, 650 olive trees, a vineyard and more than 100 cactus figs which we use to elaborate our natural products. On the northern plantation, which is located at the base of the DE LA ARENA Volcano in the town of La Oliva, you can enjoy a volcanic experience. In La Oliva, we also have an Aloe-Therapy centre, where you can enjoy a relaxing massage or a regenerating treatment, all done with fresh Aloe Vera.

The whole place is really clean and organized. I recommend a visit.
