What to do and see in Canary Islands, Canary Islands: The Best Golf Courses

January 12, 2022 Tynisha Seiler

The sun-drenched Canary Islands lie close to North Africa and have an exotic flavor of their own. Hundreds of volcanoes, rolling sand dunes, rich forests and rugged cliffs dapple these seven Atlantic gems. Catch a ferry to Lanzarote. Ride a camel through volcanic Timanfaya National Park. Take on Tenerife, home of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Romp Grand Canary's beaches or hike La Gomera's Garajonay National Park. More adventures await on tiny El Hierro, verdant La Palma and peaceful Fuerteventura.

We played here as part of a society trip to Tenerife and this was by far the best of the four courses we played. This is a very large course that has many large open fairways as well as a few tricky holes that require precison and thinking. The condition of the course is A1 and the greens were perfect, albeit fast, but very true. Also a few signature holes that really showed its true beauty. Lunch after the round at the club house was exquisite, top quality and really topped off a great round of golf and a great day. Highly recommended if you want some quality golf. The only gripe is the practice range is a good 10 minute drive from the club house in a buggie.

Right by the sea, in fact 6 holes along side the ocean, this is a great place to play. All holes have different challenges, balls can be easily lost if you are not straight, the greens are fast and difficult to read, but our 4 rounds were most enjoyable. A comfortable club house over looks most of the course. We would hope to go again

Tecina Golf

Tecina Golf, 18 holes overlooking the sea Rated among the best three golf courses in the Canary Islands Tecina Golf was rated by Golf World magazine among the 40 best courses in Spain and among the 100 best Golf Resorts in Continental Europe. Located in La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands, on the hill of Lomada de Tecina, the course overlooks the blue ocean waters. In the words of its designer, leading British architect and writer Donald Steel, it is “the most exciting and challenging project I have ever designed and built. It is unusual because you have to climb up to the first teeing ground, and then it is downhill all the way. The views are breathtaking”. The overwhelming presence of nature, the immensity of the Atlantic, the striking presence of the Mount Teide volcano, and unshakeable tranquillity are some of the sensations players feel during their round at Tecina Golf, which together with the unbeatable climate make it a unique experience.

Golf Costa Adeje

This review is about the 9hole Los Lagos golf course of Costa Adeje, separate entry, close to the driving range. I played in December 3 times the 9holes which I consider quite challenging and entertaining. Hole 4 for instance, about 100 mt above the green is a lot of fun. The course is in perfect shape, very well maintained. Staff is friendly. I paid less than 80 eur for the 9holes, a gold cart and golf bag. The clubhouse is quite small and it is not the place for lunch but you have the Clubhouse of the Costa Adeje golf in short distance. There you find a large choice of golf articles, clothes, shoes as well. I never booked in advance and always got a tee time for me alone. Even if sometimes you wait for the group ahead it is never boring, actually a good player needs max 90 min for the 9 holes with a cart. I found it very convenient, had time to warm up at the driving range (1 eur only for approx 20 balls) and play the 9- round and was still very early back to the hotel to spend time with the family!! The driving range is in good shape as well, large enough to never be crowded. I liked the view as well; all-in-one a very good experience. I was here last year, this year and will certainly come back....

The hole course is about high level class. From the reception, driving range, caddy master to the golf course. The first 9 is more traditional with palms along the fairways. Last 9, it’s here it begins with the holes along the ocean. You need to experience it to understand how fantastic the course follows the ocean, the beach and cliffs. The hole experience breadth quality. After our round of golf we had lunch at the club house and it’s nothing to complain about here either. 5 star experience.

A challenging but immaculate course with beautiful views out to sea. The fairways are like carpets and the service from the club shop and the caddy master is first rate. Cold water, bananas, clubs cleaned and on the buggy all ready to go. All of this comes at a price - green fees are very expensive if booked directly through the course but I hear deals are to be found on tour websites. Overall - in spite of the price - one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I have ever had. Course does get busy so I played at 4pm and was the only one on it!
