I consider myself well traveled, but have never had a shopping experience like this. Must be experienced. Walled shopping area must take up several city blocks. Best part is the fresh food market Huge. Fruits, spices, vegetables- all fresh and displayed with pride. Meat and fish market were best in class! No smell, no mess. Every vendor proudly displaying what they sell. Don’t miss this market

Islas Palomino

Reviewed By CarolynJ472 - Anchorage, United States

Our cruise ship was in the Callao port for way too few hours. But we used our time wisely by booking an excursion with Mar Adentro Excursions to the Palomino Islands. I have never seen penguins before and this was an opportunity to see them in their natural setting. We did see the Humboldt penguins. But we were overwhelmed with the sight of the sea lion population. There were so many that they were body to body n the rocks. One sea lion was so huge that I mistakenly thought I was looking at a sea lion and a giant boulder. He was so huge that it is a mystery how he managed to move that hulking body. Some of the passengers donned wetsuits and swam with the sea lions. Two of our guides joined them in the water and took good care of them. I was happy to watch and record their joy. Our guides and driver -- Rodrigo, Fernando and Jay -- were personable, professional and a lot of fun.

Museo de Sitio Naval- Submarino Ex Bap Abtao

Reviewed By dougs326 - Edmonton, Canada

One of the most interesting tours in my 35 yrs. of visiting Peru. Absolutely unique opportunity to see inside a modern (decommissioned 2000 A.D.) full size submarine. The tour is conducted in Spanish, so foreigners must go with someone who can translate. You MUST PHONE ahead as the tour is cancelled if there is an "ocean swell". Calleo is a dangerous area, so appropriate precautions must be observed. In spite of all of the above, this tour is well worth it for "submariners".

We only had one rest day in Lima, and were staying down the road so thought why not? Impressive building, city views from Kings tower, and great to get a bit of Peru history too. Davis was a fantastic English guide for us, highly recommend him! Definitely worth a visit and also check out the waterfront while in the area!
