This unique location is 30 minutes north of downtown Palm Springs & halfway to Joshua Tree National Park. The Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. It's an oasis located in the Sand to Snow National Monument in the Mojave desert town of Morongo Valley. The Morongo Valley fault runs through the preserve, but don't worry the fault has not moved in over 20,000 years. Some of the oldest rock formations in North America at approximately 2.7 Billion years old can be seen here. The preserve is also an internationally recognized birding site. It's on the fringes of the Mojave and Colorado deserts. Sand to Snow National Monument extends west along the Little San Bernardino Mountains to the western border of Joshua Tree National Park, where elevations are as low as 600 feet to the eastern summits of the much higher San Bernardino range & the tallest peak in Southern California being the 11,503 foot San Gorgonio Mountain.

Inclusions: I will provide bottled water to each hiker., I will provide a granola bar to each hiker., I'll provide each hiker with a backpack or you can bring your own.

Exclusions: Bring an electrolye drink if it's a warm/hot day to replace electolytes lost from sweat., Bring a salty snack if it's a warm/hot day to maintain sodium levels lost through sweat., Bring a hat, sunglasses & wear sunscreen., Wear shoes with a sturdy sole & good tread. Hiking with Carlos was such an enjoyable experience. He customized the hike exactly to my schedule and expectations, and we went on a 5-hour hiking on the southern mountains of Palm Springs. He was a very experienced guide to plan out the timing and routing, as well as offering the guiding and learning experience. The view throughout was gorgeous with a combination of both the civilizations as well as the lower desert mountains. I’m really glad that that I booked this tour as I probably won’t be able to hike the trials on my own. So for any travelers who are looking for a unique hiking experience around Palm Springs area, get in touch with Carlos to speak about your thoughts, and you won’t regret it.

This audio tour was surprisingly really good and well worth it. This was my first time trying an audio tour and I was extremely skeptical buying it, thinking we wouldn't actually use it. However, I love knowing history of places I visit and thought I would enjoy it just for myself. After a day of buzzing around Cannery Row, I offered up to my partner trying the tour. I was surprised of the accuracy of the tour guide who was very informative. Once paying and entering the official 17-mile drive the stops were gorgeous. I liken this to a much more enjoyable CA version o f the road to Hana, in Maui. The beaches were gorgeous undisturbed and in pristine condition. I could have stayed for hours at some of these locations. If I ever did this again I would treat these beaches as my destination vs. just passing by. You can easily make a day out of this by packing a light lunch. I would definitely recommend.
