Sam Cobb Farms

This is a MUST DO! Sam Cobb is so kind and welcoming. We learned so much during our visit and had an excellent time. We were able to sample several varieties of dates. Sam took his time answering our questions. It was easy to find the property. If we visit Palm Springs again, we will definitely come back. We only want to purchase Sam Cobb dates. They are the most delicious dates we've ever tasted.

The Bautista Family Organic Date Ranch

This place is a hidden gem. People are very welcoming and kind. Before getting to this farm, we stopped by at one of the gas stations in Mecca. The staff and customers were so accommodating and helpful. We got lots of freshly baked goodies and local treats. After that, we headed to the Sulton Sea, which was a huge disappointment, and it is an understatement. On the way there and back, we had seen multiple dates farms which none of them we could go to. After googling for walk-in farms, the Bautista Family Organic Date Ranch popped in the search engine. We were hesitant to go, since we did not have a reservation. Plus, we do live in times of pandemic, not all the businesses are open for public use. The Bautista Family Organic Date Ranch was a safe and extremely friendly place to visit with the whole family. After a huge fiasco, it was nice to compensate out trip with this delicious stop/outing. In order for us to get in, we pressed the gate buttons. We were terrified to intrude, since we did not let them know about our visit. Immediately, we were welcomed by the staff and a variety of animals. Our kids enjoyed looking at goats, peacocks and cows. While the staff were packing our dates, we had a chance to explore the farm. A very nice employee gave us a tour and answered all our ridiculous questions. It kept our kids busy and gave us a break from driving. By the way, I should mention that the dates are so cheap! Seriously, what a bargain! My whole family had a chance to try all kinds of dates and chose what we liked. The boxes had multiple sections for a variety of dates for purchase. Which was great for us - we could not settle with one selection, too many choices :) In closing, my family will definitely recommend this farm to visit: it is safe, very informative, family friendly, and it has a good fresh organic product. Thank you so much!!!

China Ranch Date Farm

When traveling through the Death Valley area consider visiting beautiful China Ranch, near Tecopa California. China Ranch is a family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert near Southern Death Valley. Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream, date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the desert has to offer. The Ranch is also rich in history. The Old Spanish Trail is within walking distance, as is the historic Tonopah & Tidewater railroad bed. Hike to nearby abandoned mines if you wish, or just relax and browse through our store. We offer several varieties of California dates as well as our own hybrids. Try some delicious date nut bread, muffins or cookies, or take home one of our unique hand-crafted gifts. If you are interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants or history of the area, try one of our interpretive guided nature walks. Learn about the geology, botany, birds, and early man in the area. The Old Spanish Trail comes alive again and much more. Visiting China Ranch can be a wonderful one day adventure or highlight of any trip to Death Valley. We are not a resort or tourist development, but rather a working family farm in a truly unusual setting.

China Ranch is a jumping off place for a great hike. The hike features magnificent scenery, a great slot canyon and a waterfall. After the hike, stop in at the visitor's center, featuring crafts, local honey, Ranch grown dates, and home made date bread, muffins and cookies. Cool off with the "out of this world" date shake, rich and thick and delicious. Then tour the actual date palm groves and see how the dates are grown. I can't recommend this enough!

A group of 6 of us ate breakfast here. It was a chilly morning and we wanted to sit inside. Small inside seating area, but ample outdoor seating. If you spend $25 in the cafe or the gift shop, you get tickets to their grounds. It is a beautiful walk. Their gift shop has date varieties to sample and purchase, as well as a short film on their operation. You must try the famous Date Shake, very delicious! A worthwhile stop in my opinion.
