Monastery of St. Maron Annaya

Reviewed By johndA7803EA - New York City, United States

The convent hosts the tomb and life of Saint Charbel, the most famous of Lebanese Saints. His reputation is world-wide which led Saint Patrick Cathedral to host a shrine in his name inside the Cathedral in New York City. To visit the place where he lived and walked is a mesmerizing experience. After you visit, you regain an inner peace no matter what religion you belong to. Visiting the solitary place where he spent most of his life praying in solitary is a must stop as well. It’s a short drive away on a hilltop with amazing views, not to mention the deep emotional move when you contemplate the tiny room where Saint Charbel spent most of his life till he died. No visit to Lebanon is complete without a visit to Annaya.

Old Souk

Reviewed By solotraveler96 - Ajman, United Arab Emirates

A quaint souk, with scattered coffee shops and restaurants, you can find lots of souvenirs, and personalized gift ideas, towards the end (closer to the sea) of the souk there is an old church (ND de la porte, the Gate’s lady), and as you continue down towards the mina (port) you will find some shops that sell fossils, and another small old church (lady of deliverance). Continue your walk down to the pier by the port where you will find lots of nice seafood restaurants. Fishermen are often working peacefully by the water or fishing. You can take a boat ride in the water too. Walk around the hotel “byblos sur mer”(they have a nice not expensive breakfast buffet even if you don’t stay there, with a view of the port and the sea) and back up towards the souk and there on your left is a public rock beach, and other restaurants. The perfect walk any time day or night.
