Alexandra was magnificent. I was nervous about riding around Bucharest with a stranger, but she put me at ease immediately. She came early for the pickup, and is an excellent driver. She talks more than I do (which is an accomplishment) but what she says is insightful interesting and informative. She is flexible, allowing me an occasional break to sit, rest and enjoy the city. This woman knows Bucharest and gave me everything I was hoping for in a one day tour. She introduced me to many places I intend to revisit on future trips to this wonderful city. Alexandra is truly an ambassador for Bucharest.

Ambrozie`s Cell, situated on Istrita Hill, Buzau county, is formed by two rooms in which a few bays and porches were carved, either with domestic or religious destination. Ambrozie was a monk from Breaza commune who, as a layman, was named Tanase Rizea. He spent a few years at Athos Mountain, Greece, and when he came back home he decided to isolate himself in a cell that he himself carved in the Stone of the Hawk. He lived 50 years in the cell that today has his name.Going on the trail to the peak of Istrita Hill, we reach a glade with a small forest and white cross on which it is written “The monastery of Ambrozie the Hermit”. Here we have the best sight of the southern wall of the Soimilor Hill and, to the right, the rupestral dwelling called “Ambrozie Skete” which was declared a world heritage site. Here, the monk Ambrozie lived in solitude until 1980 when he passed away.

Mihai explained everything very well, knew many amazing photos spots to get the best shots from, and did his best to make sure the trip was wonderful. He is a very interesting person to tour with and we had a lot of great conversations on the road. I’m looking forward to going back to Romania again. We started off from Bucharest to go to the Salt Mines "Salina Slanic Prahova". It was a very unique experience to visit these huge excavation hundreds of meters below the surface. We then took a short break at a lovely restaurant nearby before heading to the Mogosoaia Palace. This property is an astonishing mixture of influences in the architecture and gardens. Florin has been an excellent guide during that day-long trip. He was a true gentleman, telling us about the history, anecdotes and figures of each place a professional and kind way. Would recommend touring with him whether you are completely new to Romania or willing to know more about this beautiful country.

Four of us from the USA spent several days with Ionut touring Romania. He is a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide not only for the local art, history, architecture and so on but as one who loves nature, outdoor activities and the environment. Ionut was always helpful and companionable but never intrusive. His English is very very good, as is his sense of humor and his commitment to his craft. We really enjoyed our time in Romania, and Ionut contributed a great deal to our enjoyment! Five stars!

10. Day Trip to Slanic Salt Mine

Eastern European Experience

We start the day driving to the Slanic Salt Mine. This salt mine, located in a wonderful environment was opened for the first time in 1938 and in order to reach it we will go 400 meters down. The microclimate inside makes it one of the favorite places for both locals and travelers. Also, having a constant temperature inside of never more than 54 degrees Fahrenhei ( 12 degrees Celsius) is a preferred place in a hot summer. Our next stop will be a unique and also an odd place: the mud volcanoes. This small volcanoes stand just a few meters above ground and they exist just because of a unique combination of water and natural gases creating a moon like terrain. Next stop is Ciolanu Monastery, well known for its late 19th century icons painted by famous artist Tatarascu. Drive back to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Inclusions: Licensed Private Guide, Pick-up and Drop-off at your hotel or at any other location of your choice in the city, Modern & comfortable A/C car or minivan at your disposal during the tour, Entrance fees to all mentioned sites, VIP skip-the-line admission, Bottled water, Free Wi-fi in all our vehicles

Adrian was prompt picking us up in the morning as we settled into a pleasant drive to Braşov. Stopped for a quick coffee about halfway. Adrian showed us around Braşov and gave us plenty of time to explore on our own. We then drove to Bran Castle and Adrian was so knowledgeable about the history as he gave us a private tour. Finally we went to Peles Castle and once again astounded us with his depth of knowledge. Amazing day, one a highly recommend.
