The beach at Woodgate is pristine! The sand is white, the sea is so blue and at times you can be the only people there. There is a lovely flat walking track along the foreshore with entry points to the beach, lots of seats and some bbqs and toilets strategically placed. If you want somewhere to breathe again and enjoy peace and the beauty of nature Woodgate beach is it. We will return.

Tinaberries

Tinaberries is a working fruit producing farm nestled between the city of Bundaberg and the Southern Great Barrier Reef coastal town of Elliott Heads. Rich in history and even a residential wild kangaroo "Bob" this is a truly wonderful experience. Rich soil from this volcanic region coupled with the tropical climate enables Tinaberries to produce superior quality fruit year round. Fruit is sold direct on the farm, locally and even transported to Melbourne’s finest restaurants. During strawberry growing season visitors are invited to "Pick your own" which is very popular with locals as well as visitors to the region. All year around Tinaberries sells delicious fresh fruit ice cream in huge serves! Whether it's to call in on a drive back from the coast for an ice cream, Pick you own strawberries or just to soak up the traditional and historic farm yard experience, Tinaberries has something for every visitor to the South East Queensland region. Right now it's ICE CREAM SEASON!!

Ohana Cider House & Tropical Winery

Ohana Cider House and Tropical Winery is a must-see stop in the Bundaberg region. Sample a range of award-winning ciders, fruit wines and liqueurs with owners Josh and Zoe - or indulge in an insta-worth tasting paddle in the outdoor cider garden.

Reviewed By adventureswithemj - Brisbane, Australia

Just around the corner from the Bundaberg Rum Distillery is the Ohana Cider House & Tropical Winery. Here we met owners Josh & Zoe and heard their story about how (with no winemaking experience and on a whim) they purchased a run-down winery in Childers in 2014. They have done great things since then and now produce several different ciders, two different wines, a port and a liqueur. The apple cider is made with fresh apples from Queensland’s apple capital Stanthorpe and the wine is fruit wine made with strawberries and pineapple (yum!). I sampled several ciders and both the Strawberry Moscato and Pineapple Moscato. While the ciders were nice, the wine was excellent! In fact, it was so excellent that I ended up buying 12 bottles of it! My husband tried and purchased the coffee liqueur. They also do a cheese board to accompany your tastings that includes Kenilworth cheeses, so grab yourself one of these and settle in for a great afternoon! Pro tip: Get yourself a designated driver and grab yourself the $18 tasting paddle that allows you to try six different drinks of your choice.

Bundaberg Rum Distillery

Under the careful and crafty eyes of our Distillers, Blenders and Bondsmen, millions of litres of Bundaberg Rum are aged to perfection here at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery. After protecting and ageing our rums since the 70s, the grand old guardian of the distillery Bondstore #7, has been given new life by being transformed into our immersive Bundaberg Rum Museum. Inside, you’ll walk through a series of 75,000 litre American White Oak Vats – the very same vats which have matured hundreds of thousands of litres of rum (after being emptied and rebuilt of course). Inside these vats live a sensory experience where you can see, touch and smell your way through our rich history in creating Australia’s Favourite Rum – Bundaberg Rum. Please ensure that you arrive at least 20-30 mins early for your tour, especially for the last tour of the day and during school holiday periods. Unfortunately Flammable devices; matches and lighters, as well as any item with a battery including; watches, cameras, and mobile phones, pose a fire hazard to the Distillery and cannot be taken on tour. Lockers are provided free of charge to store these items whilst inside the Distillery on tour. If you have a medically required device such as a hearing aid, give us a call in advance so we can make arrangements for you to bring those items with you.

The cherry-on-top to our visit, after waiting patiently from 19.30 until 21.30, when spotters on the protected beach sent word that a loggerhead had beached in the dark, and had crawled up the sands to deposit her eggs. Our conducted party, supervised by the Centre's rangers, were led through the ocean-side trees to the dark beach, lit only by the legions of stars above Here, we watched the huge loggerhead female dig herself into the sand and deposit scores of eggs into her nest. She then covered and buried the eggs, turned towards the ocean and dragged herself back to the waters, ready again to swim thousands of kms around the oceans of the world, until she had once aagain to breed and repeat the huge journey back to exactly the same Mon Repos beach from where she had emerged from the egg shells and begun her initial, amazing move to the ocean, avoiding the predators that took so many of the other hatchlings. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us; viewing the resilience of this creature and marvelling at the built-in process that would bring each turtle back to the very beach where they first appeared, years later to lay her generation's eggs. We watched the Rangers measure her, retag her with fresh information, noting the earlier tags to record her age and travels, all information contributing to an increased understanding of this form of marine life. An experience not to be missed!
