What to do and see in Bucharest, Romania: The Best Wine Tours & Tastings

July 31, 2021 Milan Banda

Vlad the Impaler stated his claim to Bucharest in 1459. His citadel on the Dambovita was the first of flotillas of palaces, many of which still stand. Four subway lines and a modern bus network transport visitors and commuters. Nicknamed "Little Paris", Bucharest's elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences. Don't miss the Village Museum, Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum. You can't miss the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world (after the Pentagon).

My idea was to have a day trip from the Romanian capital in Bulgaria and if I like it to stay and explore more. I loved Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo and actually did not go back to Bucharest at the end of the tour. Those 2 cities truly fascinated me and I wanted more off-the-beaten path of Bulgaria. I recommend you this tour as fantastic is not enough to express it!

Gabriel was our guide and drove us on the day seeing both Bran and Peles castles. He was on time collecting us from our hotel and drove us safely to the castles. On the way we stopped off at a lovely restaurant that he recommended for lunch. He was a great guide, there with us all the time to answer any questions we had and take photos of our group. Even though we were over our time schedule with Gabriel, he even took us to the town where the Black Church was, so that we could see it. We had a great day, thank you Gabriel.

Wine is part of this nation’s culture and if someone came to Romania and would not taste our wines, it would be like looking at a church from the outside and not going inside! During this tour you will meet, feel and taste the wines of the most famous wine regions in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, which was split in two parts after World War II, one is the Romanian region of Moldova, the other one being the Old Bessarabia, nowadays known as the Republic of Moldova. But both regions are linked through their famous and good wines! We will start this adventure with a Moldovan wines tasting.

The company I work for hires Ways.md every time we want to organize a trip. We had multiple trips: Transnistria Trip (a country that doesn't exist), Gagauzia Trip/South of Moldova (including the only colhoz still acting in Moldova), Iasi trip (Romania), Chisinau City one day walking tour, and these trips were at the highest level. As their customer you won't have to worry about anything. They provide absolutely everything: transportation, reservation, tour guide, lunches, overnight staying. They will pick you up from the hotel and will bring you back with a lot of positive impressions and emotions. They are flexible to your request, if you want a personalized trip, they will adjust it to your interests and budget. Their tour guides speak very good English, Romanian, Russian and other. The transportation they provide for the trips are always clean modern and comfortable. Everything according to the number of guests. Without doubts I recommend this company if you intend to visit Moldova or Romania.

Alexandra was magnificent. I was nervous about riding around Bucharest with a stranger, but she put me at ease immediately. She came early for the pickup, and is an excellent driver. She talks more than I do (which is an accomplishment) but what she says is insightful interesting and informative. She is flexible, allowing me an occasional break to sit, rest and enjoy the city. This woman knows Bucharest and gave me everything I was hoping for in a one day tour. She introduced me to many places I intend to revisit on future trips to this wonderful city. Alexandra is truly an ambassador for Bucharest.

Ever imagined yourself walking through a medieval village that’s located right in the middle of a city? Join this private guided tour and discover Bucharest’s Village Museum – a time capsule in the heart of an urban jungle. Once enchanted by the folklore and by the eerie looks of the outdoor museum, you will end the tour in style: taste traditional Romanian wines, cheese & dry sausages at one of Bucharest's oldest wine bars located in a century old manor. “The architecture of a country is, perhaps, the most accurate expression of its history” (M. Cantacuzino). Therefore, we visit the Village Museum. Once you know the history, you have to understand the culture. Food & wine reflect a country's culture. Yes, that's why we do a wine tasting after the visit at the museum!

Inclusions: Private guide & transport, Free Hotel pickup and drop-off, Wine tasting - 4 wine glasses/person, traditional Romanian cheese & dry sausages, Village Museum entrance fees

Exclusions: Additional food and drinks, unless specified

Did a great day trip to Peles Palace, Bran Castle and Brasov. Mihai explained everything very well, knew many amazing photos spots to get the best shots from, and did his best to make sure the trip was wonderful. He is a very interesting person to tour with and we had a lot of great conversations on the road. I’m looking forward to going back to Romania again. Will definitely book with Mihai whenever I do go back.
