Pro Dive Manly

Reviewed By Stephen F - Sydney, Australia

I did a 2 tank shore dive with Pro Dive from Shelley Beach Manly. Meeting point was shop and warehouse in Brookvale (easy to find & park), which had good clean well stocked shop and large area for storage and change rooms etc. Getting kitted out was quick and easy with all stock looking good, clean and new/newish.
Staff in shop warehouse were efficient, friendly and engaging - even remembered my first name from booking.
I expected full dive group of 8 or so, but there were only two of us. Heart sank and expected it to be cancelled, but not a bit of it. We met Sam our instructor/guide who was charming and had eye for safety.
Mini-bus transit to shore dive was fine. Unloaded and then got kitted up for dive. We has 2 great dives both close on 1 hour. Needed one extra weight which was sorted out straight away. Visibility was good at say 10m despite heavy rain & storms in past few days. Fish, etc were much better than expected. Sam knew her way around and pointed out everything of interest including motorbike and one large octopus with lots of legs (found out later it was actually 2 together seeking to make a baby octopus(!)
Food & drink were fine - all that was needed between dives.
Mini bus back to shop/warehouse was efficient again.
All in all excellent safe efficient dive operation. I will certainly be diving with them again.

This is a great shopping centre, with so much variety in the shops here. We are from Melbourne, and we found there were so many stores we had not seen in any of the main shopping centres down there. We were able to knock off a lot of our christmas shopping in one go! The shopping centre is also aesthetically pleasing, with a unique design. Lots of shops like JB Hifi, H&M, Myer, David Jones, as well as lots of little shops, selling boutique items, surg/beach ware, and designer items. Lots of food outlets, with cute interior designs. They also seem to run a lot of fun events around a water Fountain.
The downside is the carpark! What a nightmare. You can only park for 3 hours here for free, and they do NOT validate if you want to stay longer to use the cinemas, as it normally what would happen in Melbourne. We parked in the orange carpark, and were told to get to the yellow one, where the cinemas are, we had to go outside onto the street, and do a uturn to get back to the yellow carpark. Once on the street there are no right turns anywhere. We eventually turned left to go back into another carpark, and thought we would be able to drive around and eventually get to yellow, but no, again we had to exit the complex back onto the street. We eventually gave up and went home without watching the movie. Visitors using the cinema should be able to have their parking validated! Instead, we went home, which meant the lost the money we would have spent at the cinemas (we planned to go Gold Class or equivalent), as well as the money we were planning to spend here on dinner and drinks.

Beautifully stylish hideaway in the industrial suburb of Brookvale, we opted for the distillery tour which was an excellent, personal introduction to botanical gins, vodkas & clear whisky. We saw, smelt & experienced the amazing spirits some of which are made with local Curl Curl seaweed! The hour-long tour was complete with a tasting, setting us up for a few more cocktails afterwards surrounded by barrels, bottles and great music choice. Well done for the awards already received - long may we drink gin here!

The Perfect Wave is a surf travel company with a simple philosophy "to help you discover your perfect wave." Our goal is to give you the same amazing adventures we have been fortunate to experience ourselves. Everyone's perfect wave is different, that's why our motto is "Your Search for The Perfect Wave" and we are here to help you find yours.

Went to Kandooma in the Maldives and booked through The Perfect Wave. They were great. Well organized and quick to respond as I booked two days before I left for the short trip. They greeted me on arrival, answered all my questions and always checked in to make sure you were having a good time.
They work with all levels of surfers as the resort has couples, families and a few singles. A good place to learn as they have smaller breaks as well as boat trips to the bigger spots, therefore good for all levels.
Things to consider on going back are more hotel related than surf related. Once there, food is really expensive. Book one of the board packages that includes more than breakfast. Ask for this info from the perfect wave as soon as you inquire. I was there 3 nights, 4 days and I would have saved about 250usd in food as most meals (even simple ones) were 75ish USD. (I paid 40usd for a club Sandwich through room service...once). The Perfect Wave gave me a heads up on F&B packages, but I didn't think it would be as expensive as it was, they clearly know what they are talking about and have your best interest in mind.
I would highly recommend using this company and will do so again on my next trip.

Nomad Brewing Co

Reviewed By Owen G - Sydney, Australia

The tasting room sometimes has food and sometimes it doesn't so they are quite hapy to phone "The Brooky Pie" accross the road and order pies for their customers. If you get lucky, there may actually be Nomad's beers in the pies themselves. Yesterday we got lucky and had their newest limited release "Choc Wort Orange Imperial Stout" in a beef and vegetable pie.
Neeedless to say, the beers are excellent. There's some regulars (we preferred the Belgian Wheat beer style) as well as the previous limited releases in bottles. Nomad also act as importers for some other beers from all over the world and all of them are for sale from the tasting room fridges.
There was also a caterer on site yesterday (Saturday) with a smoking oven. I had a sample of the meet, lovely. I understand that there are different caterers invited along as well as some regulars.
We were a group of 12 so we took over one of the beer garden bench tables they had set up in the warehouse. It's basic but you are there for the company of friends and the expert knowledge of beers. The background music wasn't too loud and I wish I'd asked who was performing it - it fitted to the ambience well.
There's a "bocci" bowling area out the front but unfortunately you aren't allowed to take your drinks out whilst you are playing.
I'll be back and it'll be even better if "4 Pines brewery" and "Dad and Dave's brewery" in the nearby streets open up tap rooms. Well worth a stop over in Brookvale for a sample and to buy some interesting beers to take home.
