What to do and see in Brisbane, Queensland: The Best Scenic Walking Areas

July 18, 2021 Milan Banda

Australia’s third-largest city, Brisbane is the hub of Queensland culture, offering a peek at the past and a glimpse into the future. Visit the historic Windmill and Old Commissariat Store, built by convicts in 1828, or fast-forward to the present (and beyond) with a trip to the new Gallery of Modern Art. Mingle with locals atop Mount Coot-tha, cruise the Brisbane River to South Bank’s sandy beach on the City Cat and make sure to fill the cuteness quota at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, home to koalas and kangaroos.

We walked along here at end of the day and had really lovely views of the city and Story bridge. Had a cool drink and snack at Howard Street wharf area before strolling back to car

Howard Smith Wharves

Reviewed By mytrips55 - Franklin, Australia

Sitting in the shade at HSW on a sunny Saturday we enjoyed good food wine and service! Move a little away from the crowds to the brand new facility and there’s plenty of room to relax without feeling you are in a goldfish bowl. Ordering on line takes a few goes before you get the hang of it but really the quick service certainly makes up for any inconvenience. Booze list far better than the usual limited selection ant raid prices. We had a Tassie resiling half bottle that was very scoffable. Food fresh and full of Asian spices coupled with friendly intimate service to make the whole deal a memorable one. Hope Howard Smith Wharfs works for everyone as well as it did for us.

Wilson's Outlook Reserve

Reviewed By kpiddy - Brisbane, Australia

Wilson's Outlook Reserve is located on the cliffs above the Howard Smith Wharves, it's a great place for a picnic as well as taking in the views of the city, a special place to view fireworks and other events on the river. The reserve was named after Thomas Wilson, a long standing local alderman from 1905-21 and Major in 1909, as well as having been known as the Outlook by local residents of the late nineteenth century. Street parking is available, I like to include it in my walking circuit along the New Farm Riverwalk, Moray Street and Bowen Terrace. Picnic tables and outdoor exercise equipment are available at Wilson's Outlook Reserve.
