Breuil-Cervinia Ski Area

An infinite snowy area that begins at 1,524 metres, in Valtournenche, embraces Breuil-Cervinia, rises up to 3,480 metres of Plateau Rosà, touches the 4,000 m peak of Piccolo Cervino, climbes up to 4,478 m to the top of the Cervino. An area where the infinite snow continues on the Swiss side to Zermatt. An area where the snow is the setting of sport, holidays and fun. The tourism vocation of Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche had it’s beginning more than two hundred years ago. Excursionists and academics were the pioneers of a tourism that united sport, scientific study and intellectual exchange. In 1936, a new Breuil-Cervinia was created. The construction of the first cable car was a cutting-edge work of engineering excellence. The Hotel Gran Baita situated at the foot of the slopes, with the cable car departure station annexed to it, anticipates by over half a century the concept of an integral complex for skiing. Breuil-Cervinia became the Queen of the snow. From sport to cinema, politics and commerce, those who count meet here. Innovation, in Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche, is the key word. New ways to practice sport, new ways to enjoy a holiday, new services to allow more free time. The technology is not limited to the rapid lift systems, but also to the territorial fibre optic network that allows the information to be transmitted in real time. Time and space dimensions have changed thanks to the e-skipass, to the keycard and to the hotel reservation system via the internet. 350 thousands web navigators every month visiting the site to check out the webcams, weather reports, lift status and snow conditions. In Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche, collaboration between the operators in the area guarantees guests quality and state of the art solutions.

A really fantastic resort for every level of skier. Super beautiful with Il Cervino (the Matterhorn) above you at all times - The piste area is extensive, with the option of exploring Zermatt as well as Cervinia and Valtourneche. The village is lovely, and there are lots of great places on the mountain as well. Also lots of great off piste.

Plateau Rosa

If you want to test the endurance of your thighs, head up Europe’s highest cable car (to 3,883 metres) to the Klein Matterhorn - Piccolo Cervino from the Zermatt side and then schuss down a 20 kilometre and 2,359m vertical drop red (intermediate) run to Valtournench. However, you will need to invest in an International Pass that is also valid at Zermatt. Check the weather report, because it's windy at the top.

Lago Blu

If you visiting Breuil-Cervinia you have to stop by the lake even for short visit.
The lake is located right on the road to Breuil-Cervinia - about 5 mins drive from the town. There is a small parking from which the lake can be reached in 2 mins walk.
The Cervino (Matterhorn) mountain view from the lake is amazing. The mountain itself looks superb, it's reflection in the lake water makes the view even better.
Good weather is the must. When clouds - you can miss the views.
As noted, you can just stop by the lake for the short visit, or you can hike in this beautiful area.

Nol-Ski

Reviewed By skileader - London, United Kingdom

Pre booked the skis through Skiset. Not sure that really saved that much money but it did allow us to suggest skis we would like to use.
I used lightweight skis from the second level range. Very good. Made it reasonably easy to carry them round but were rigid enough to take everything on piste and off piste. The quality of the ski preparation was very good, edged and waxed enough to keep me on track the whole week, no false edges even though there were areas where the wind had blown the powder cover off and left hard snow/ice areas.
My son had elected to take the top of the range skis and though he changed the style to Rossignol top of the hero range/racing base skis he too found them to be excellent. Skied far faster than the rest of us with no false edges, carving happily everywhere.
Shop had been quick fitting us out, making sure his boots fitted comfortably and checking they applied the correct din settings.
The return was equally efficient, just turned up and handed the gear in, clicked off by computer and away we went

Cervino - Sci Estivo

Skied over from Zermatt. Great long run to start the day. there is lots of snowmaking to keep runs in good condition. We skied on two days although the unseasonal warm weather at the end of January softened the slopes enough to allow one or two rocks to emerge.
Good choice of restaurants on mountain and not very busy for us on a weekday with no real lines. Apparently best to avoid in February and at weekend.

Centro Storico Breuil-Cervinia

Reviewed By Davide S

Cervinia city center is very compact and basically composed by 2 main streets, converging into the Church square.
This is not the typical Alpine village as you can expect, as the town has been basically developed in the 50ies and 60ies, following the french "ski total" style, with some Italian interpretations.
Most of the buildings have 6 to 7 floors and have a particularly "modern" alpine architectural style, mixing "verticality" and rationalism with traditional materials, like wood and stones. Other are more traditional, with a more classic "chalet" shape.
The global urban development anyway is quite chaotic, with too many different styles and several dimensional scales mixed together, but many buildings, singularly observed, are really interesting and quite innovative, for the time when they were constructed.
On the other side, the village is quite dense and compact, avoiding that "sprawl" effect that you observe in many other modern alpine stations, thus creating a real small "city center", where 90% of shops, restaurants and bars are concentrated.
There is a pedestrian street where people use to walk and meet on the apres-ski, for shopping and people watching, or just to have an aperitivo or some hot chocolate in the numerous bars...
But of course, the most interesting is the scenery: in sunny days, both in summer or winter, just a few meters from the city center the magnificent Grandes Murrailles mountain chain starts with its vertical walls and the Matterhorn dominate the valley with its massive and elegant shape.
It is so close and magnificent, that you can think to reach it with a few steps...
Probably the mountain scenery is less picturesque than on the Zermatt side, but it is more wild and really impressive...

The perfect place for a picnic for one and all. The views are stunning with high peaks all around, you can see the Cervin (the Italian name for the Matterhorn). If you are here in late Spring you can see the plumes of snow coming down of the peaks after being heated by the Sun. Mountain Magic !
