Located 15 minutes bus ride outside of Villa de Leyva (take the ng to Santa Sofia), this small museum provides a really interesting activity for those interested in the prehistoric history of the region, and the country in general. 10000 COP to enter and this includes an informative guide in either Spanish or English, and we could tell the guide was incredibly passionate about her job and was very happy to answer all our questions. Probably only need to spend 45 minutes here, but museo El Fósil is conventiently located 100 metres across the road so you’re able to visit both museums in one morning/afternoon.

We did the couples tour of this gorgeous winery and it was the best part of our trip to Villa de Leyva. The tour itself is short, but it includes a lot. From a wine cocktail as you arrive, along with a keepsake wine glass. And the glass is quality, not a cheap giveaway! Then a short walk though the vineyard and a tour of the wine cellar and short video. Finally, a tasting of a red and white wine that comes with a very generous plate of gourmet cheeses, proscuitto, dried fruits and chocolate. But best of all is just relaxing in the courtyard and taking in the scenery as you sip some more wine. We were also lucky to be there on a warm and very sunny day. It was an incredible way to spend an afternoon. We will surely visit here again, but maybe opt for a picnic basket next time.

I was in 2016. I stayed with my family in Bogota but we decided, visit this wonderful place. I was only there once but, is a place that i would like to visit again. This is a beautiful and quiet town located, about three hours from Bogota. In Villa de Leyva you will find hotels, good gastronomy, craft shops and the largest square in Colombia. This place doesn´t have many activities to do it´s a beautiful and quiet place where you can enjoy a day with your family, coupleor friends and learn more about the local culture

Casa Terracota

The terracotta house is about a 15 min walk from the main plaza, and well worth a trip to investigate. Almost every little nuance, from lamps, doors, windows, knobs and so much more were intricate works of art. And the design of the house itself is something to behold. The talent and imagination of the artist is unique and very detailed. Anyone that appreciates art and architecture will find this home a must to see. Children will not be disappointed to explore all the little nooks and crannies but I suggest keeping them in reign around the stairs and terraces.
