Staveley Nature Reserve

Reviewed By johnhouston2 - Knaresborough, United Kingdom

Following the relaxation of Covid restrictions, it was a pleasure to be able to drive the short distance up the road to visit Stavely again. On a bright, spring morning it was a pleasure to stroll around the reserve and, with the addition of a couple of new hides, foliage clearance etc., it looks as though the staff and volunteers have been busy. The paths were all clear and dry, and even the footpath on the other side of the river Tutt is clear and very easy to walk on. There weren’t huge numbers of birds during our visit, but it was a pleasure nevertheless to sit for a while on a bench overlooking one of the lagoons and simply watch the comings and goings of the ones that are there. It is always a pleasure to come here.

What a gem! Minskip Farm shop and their new restaurant is well worth a visit. The fruit and veg in the shop is so well displayed and you will find niche products that are out of the ordinary plus gift ideas . The restaurant is FUN. Great decoration and the swing seating keeps the children happy for hours. And the staff are warm and welcoming . Outside you can visit pigs, hens, chickens and the sweetest alpacas. There is plenty to do, see , eat and buy for all the age ranges. We have made several visits to Minskip and the delightful owners, Ben and Emma, work hard to provide a great service and expand our experience. Well done to you both and all the staff. Mary and Les

Set in the ancient roman village of Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, the Battle Cross stand towards the Boroughbridge end of the village with a plaque on the nearby wall giving details of the battle from 1322 One of many historic things to view on a visit to the village, others of which should include the Church, standing on the site of the old Roman forum, the Ship Inn for excellent food and drink, the gorgeous village green with various memorials and the Roman museum with its ruins and mosaics A gorgeous place for a walk on a sunny day ????????

The Roman Ramble

Reviewed By 401tonyd - Harrogate, United Kingdom

If you like the big skies of a floodplain walk with the added interest of a sleepy river, Roman remains, and and achingly pretty village (Aldborough), then you’ll enjoy this relatively short walk. The day we did it the weather was perfect, and we finished with lunch at the Ship Inn. Perfect.
