Boquete Bees

Panama's home of live, bio-active single variety honey. We also have a 200 sq meter butterfly house with over 30 local species of butterflies. Emerge yourself in the pollinators with a half day tour or else just swing buy for honey tastings and butterfly house (open 9-4), shop (open 9-4). We have a unique offering and we want to share it with people who like high quality honey, love nature and want to make a difference by supporting our small business. We are passionate about taste. We can offer honey tastings like no other. More varied than anywhere else in the world that we know of. We produce a vast range of different flavors of honey depending on the floral source. This is unique and only possible because of the enormous biodiversity in Western Panama around Volcan Baru. This small Isthmus has Atlantic and Pacific coasts, 11,000 ft mountains and just about every type of forest and grassland in between. Some of our honeys are rare, some we have in larger quantity. We are serious about health. Our honey and our honey bees are very healthy. We sell raw minimally filtered honey. More than that though, our honey is pure and pristine in ways that are not possible in most of the developed world: 1. Most of our honeys are from wild plants which have no chemical treatment and are utterly pristine 2. Our bees are healthy, we do not need to feed antibiotics or miticides We want to teach people to better understand how to care for our pollinators. We offer a tour on our honey farm in Boquete. We treasure all types of bees and keep on the farm a wide variety of forage for bees, different types of native bees to illustrate how bees and plants are meant to exist together. Our butterfly house is 200 sq meters and is full of fun and activity. Sure to delight all ages.

We were with a large group. The owner and her staff were organized, informative and entertaining. The tour was so personable. The guide was so willing to stop and answer questions. The honey tasting after the tour was eye opening, never thought there could be so many different flavors. This is a MUST see excursion.

Sendero Los Quetzales (The Quetzales Trail)

Trail is open

So this is definitely not a 'family' hike (ie - small children, older folks, or anyone not in good shape). That said, it is spectacular... the first portion of the hike is along a dirt road, down from the parking/pay area at the end of the road (Yellow building). It starts off with a downhill section, part of which is steep (white sandbags filling in ruts). Once you get towards end of this road, the trail truly begins off to the left. First part of the trail is pretty nice. Yes, it's rocky! If you have hiking shoes/boots with ankle support, those would be gerat. that said, I saw two people with flip-flops on yesterday?!? Minor creek crossing. basically a gradual climb. We saw two absolutely stunning colorful Quetzales and a three-warble Bell bird (also stunning, and loud!) A good turn around spot for those who dont want a big challenge is when you get to the "stairs". If you are feeling strong, and adventurous... do the stair climb and head up to the Rock look out. These are basically steep, stair-master climbs... there are two, with a little side-trek between them. There is a break area. The views once you get up to the Rock "Molino?" look out is fantastic. This is where we chilled out, had a picnic, and then turned around. This took us about 6 hours, going at a moderate pace. You could certainly do it faster. I would recommend this lovely jungle hike, in dry season (or not after any rain) for the sure-footed, and able-bodied. It's challenging but rewarding! Hope that review helps....

We were shown around by Austin and he allowed to feed some animals. Through the tour it gets obvious that all animals were rescued at point and are being rehabilitated. Some were found with broken wings, were blind or sick. The team does an amazing job with rescuing the animals and the stories are truly heart warming. Austin took a lot of time to make sure we know about everything we wanted to hear. We were able to get close to some very rare animals that are native only in this part of the world which was a great experience.Even though the park is not very big, it is a must do for animal lovers as you rarely will ever come so close to these kind of animals. I highly recommend this experience to animal lovers, families or anyone curious about animal rescue.

Wow, am I thrilled that Boquete offers such a wonderful library for use by residents and tourists alike! They have a nice selection of fiction, written in English, that is separated for easy browsing. Other categories include books in English and Spanish mixed together. As a temporary resident, I applied for my library card right away. It was ready in just a few days, but I was allowed to check out books while waiting for the card. As a tourist I paid $20, but will be refunded that amount before leaving the area. Its a beautiful, clean, well organized library, with a photo gallery on the top floor. I'd recommend it to all! Super friendly, helpful librarians are there to answer your questions.

We arrived in the morning at the trailhead. It was a little confusing to figure out the way, but the local hostess was friendly and helpful. Once we got onto the trail, it was certainly a jungle / cloud forest experience. We saw and heard several bands of howler monkeys, and encountered the 1300 year old tree. But our hopes were fulfilled when we saw the famed Quetzals--a remarkable bird. We were fortunate enough to see 4 (and hear two others). It was a lifetime experience for me to see them flying in the sunlight and reflecting brilliantly. The waterfall at the end of the trail is also quite remarkable.

The Lost Waterfalls is a moderate to difficult hike through the cloud forest in western Panama to three fabulous waterfalls. The hike can take from one to three hours round trip depending on how many waterfalls you want to see. If you are lucky you may spot sloths, monkeys, quetzals or any number of the fascinating wildlife living in the cloud forest. We are open every day and you do not need reservations to hike. You do not need a guide, but there are lots of good guides in town who can make your hike more informative and fun.

If you're up for hiking in the jungles of Panamá this is the place to do it. The falls are absolutely gorgeous and the flora and fauna is amazing! Best to hike right before the dry season, because the trails get slippery during the rainy season. You won't regret thus trip. We have lived in Panamá 14 years and have done this hike twice. Takes hours to do so bring water and snacks!

Several of the ales are superb so one should plan to go several times. Music on Thursdays thru Sundays, mostly cover groups playing pop USA and Panamá tunes. Some of them are quit good. It is easy to meet a variety of people there. Sometimes the owner is present and will tell you more about her beers, etc.

Very pretty whimsical garden. There were happy sayings, happy music playing from flower speakers on the walk. The lady who owned the place gave us a tour of her very impressive bonsai garden as well. Very worthwhile to walk around.
