I did the boys 2 week camp about 20 years ago. As i have grown older, it remains one of my fondest memories. I gained so much knowledge, confidence, and respect for others at Turtle Island. It is an experience, that I think, every young man should have. Most of my best attributes and skills in life were born here.

Great place for Sat morning trip. Local veggies , flowers , meats etc. Live music and activity area for kids. We had great pastries from one of the vendors. Both sweet and savory . Coffee available and Pizza wagon sells water. No dogs allowed into the market area but the market butts up to the Heritage park and dogs are allowed there. Rest rooms are in the park as well as tables and benches if you need to rest. The Heritage park is a good place to visit on your own or take a cheap interpretive tour by one of the guides.

Mast General Store Old Boone Mercantile

Reviewed By PatK979 - Aiken, United States

30 years ago we stumbled upon the "original" Mast General Store and Post Office in Valle Crucis with our then 4 year old son. Now we are back visiting Boone with are son, daughter-in-law and 4 year old grand-daughter. As Grandparents are apt to do, we use the excuse, "it's a family tradition", to take our grand-daughter into the Mast General Store in Boone. In no way does this store resemble the original store in Valle Crucis. This is much newer and a wee bit larger!!!!! However, they did keep the barrels of candy and abundance of toys departments. To say our grand-daughter was overwhelmed is an understatement. Needless to say her parents were not the least bit happy with grandmom and grandpop. Three pounds of candy and two stuffed animals and were outta there.!!!!! Oh, I should say the clothing and shoe departments are very good!!!
