Barefoot Beach Preserve

Reviewed By CharlotteDayTripper - Charlotte, North Carolina

We have come to this beach for over 20 years and have noticed there are considerably less shells than there used to be. But it's still a great beach for shelling, for native wildlife, usually a dolphin sighting, great sunsets. During season get there early or you won't find parking and the beach gets crowded. Bring everything you need, no real amenities.

You have to go on bonita Beach road and before it turns north to ft. Myers beach you turn left and go a couple miles. It's back in Collier county so it's free if you have a beach sticker. Beautiful beaches and a nice walking trail at the end. The park has one refreshment stand and public bathrooms. One of the best beaches in Florida

Well worth the visit. Between Gulf Coast shopping center and Coconut Point, I prefer Coconut because it has more places to shop. We he former has more places to eat. Your choice as to which you personally want. We are in Estero which is equally distant between the two centers.

My family came here Easter Monday to spend some time at the beach during our vacation in Bonita springs. The entrance per vehicle is eight dollars. There is a moderately sized parking lot near the visitor centre and store. From here you can rent paddle boards, bikes, buy cold drinks, clothing and other trinkets. There is a quick walk out to the beach on a boardwalk, or you can take a free trolley to the beach a bit further down. The trolley is nice because there are washrooms right close to the beach down there. There is also a stand for snacks and a few shaded picnic tables. We walked down the beach and enjoyed looking for shells and seeing the wading birds. The beach was pretty busy that day, but overall very enjoyable!

It is nice to have the option of walking under the tropical canopy or riding the tram to the beach. There was so much nature! We saw large crabs, sand dollars, and dolphins. The water was clear and the sky was beautiful.

We surely will be back in the years to come. It's a long journey for someone coming from Portugal, but it's truly worth it. Great beach with white sand, water, conditions and region, weather, holiday spirit. Very calm has we like it.

Bowditch Point Park

Reviewed By patnjoe2015 - Alexandria, Virginia

We have visited beaches in Hawaii, Tahiti, the Caribbean, and many more and Fort Myers Beach on Estero Island in Florida is right up there with any of them. Bowditch Point is at the north end of the beach with views of the Gulf of Mexico, Sanibel Island, and Fort Myers. It is a well maintained public beach with picnic areas, restrooms, and shower stalls. The parking area is a good size, but fills up quickly during the "season" (Jan - Apr). Concrete and boarded walk ways lead to the beach through the picnic areas. This is a really nice place to spend the day at the beach and have a picnic.

OK, so the young barefooted man in the Alligator pen was enough to make the admission price worthwhile. He literally just screamed @ these large Alligators and they scurried back into the water. Amazing! Hurricane damage was evident but they are trying to restore the facility. LOVED feeding the Flamingos by hand and enjoyed the gorgeous Peacocks. They have multiple admission discounts including one for Veterans which is always appreciated. Good thing we have our car for our return to PA because the Succulents I bought at ridiculously low prices can make it back with me. Very nice experience.

This beach extends along the coastal state park. It can be quite crowded but the beach is nice and the natural background is nicer than looking at high rise condo buildings. There are restrooms at each parking area and they have some rental facilities at parking lot 4 (which we did not check out). Parking and entrance fee was $6 per car.

Pay attention to the events schedule at Riverside Park. There are a number of major events held there, including two large art shows hosted by Center of the Arts of Bonita Springs, the Bonita Brew Fest and the Bonita Blues Festival, all held during the months of January, February and March.

The 4th Annual Bonita Brew Fest will be held on February 17, 2018. The Festival has live music and offers unlimited sampling of 150 or more unique craft beers. My wife and I volunteered at last years event and found the event to be fun and lively with well over 1000 beer drinkers in attendance.
