Really simple to book over e-mail with Anita. Much more reasonable than TUI. Emmanual was fantastic, really friendly, local knowledge and no pressure etc . to buy things. We had a private tour which was much cheaper than the tour operator, and I'd rather our money go straight to the locals. Definitely recommend.!!!!!!!

Why Turtle Watch with Abel Tours? A professional, well-rehearsed team where unnecessary running on the beaches falls away. Since we work with radio and send the guys ahead with whom we are in constant contact. You will be picked up by us at about 18.00 clock from the hotel or your holiday accommodation. After about an hour's drive, we will reach the reserve on the east coast of Boa Vista, where 80% of the oviposition takes place. I ask you to put on good shoes, to wear dark and warm clothes! Sometimes we have to be patient, depending on when we can observe the oviposition, we are back at about 23h.

Inclusions: Entrance to the nature reserve

7. Snorkeling in Gatas Bay

Abel-Tours

Observation of the underwater world and corals, immerse yourself in another world. The “Gatas Bay” is located on the north-east bank of Boa Vista. "Gatas" refers to the local name of the nurse shark. But it is completely harmless and very shy. Snorkeling tours are only possible at high tide, as the bay becomes very shallow at low tide and the coral heads almost protrude from the sea surface. Equipment such as shoes, life jacket, mask and snorkel are available. We don't use fins to avoid damaging the fragile corals. But they are not needed either, there is no current and the depth is only about 1.5 meters. The trip to Gatas (four-wheel drive pick-up vehicle) takes about 50 minutes from Sal Rei.  We usually spend 45-60 minutes in the water. On the way back we stop in a small one Bar in the village of Joao Galego for a drink and a snack.

Inclusions: There will be a snack on the way back where you can try local products. We also offer you a beer or soft drink, Use of Snorkelling equipment

My husband actually stumbled across the tour from Trip Advisor and was in touch with Justin who had given us a low down of what we would be seeing and what to expect the day before. Justin was a really good tour guide. We really enjoyed being shown around by him. He explained the areas we were going to and made a real effort to get to know my husband and me. We had a lot of fun, good music and jokes on the way which made the journeys between each destination go quicker. We went to all the places which we wanted - Wreck of Santa Maria and Viana Desert and others. Taking a Private Tour was defiantly a better option than a group tour because were allowed to roam freely and really closely to attractions. The only reason why we have given this tour a 4 is because we had to prompt Justin to give us information on the areas we were visiting. Overall though we really enjoyed the trip. Thank you for showing us around the Island.

9. Boa Vista Private Tour from Curral Velho to Ervatao

La Perla Boavista

On this unforgettable excursion we will see the ancient abandoned village Curral velho, with stone houses and the large salt lake. its beach nature reserve and the rare bird Fragata; we will then go to the natural reserve of the beautiful Ervatao beach, where the carreta carreta turtles lay their eggs; then we will continue to the Morro nero lighthouse with a breathtaking view and the colorful villages of the north. The outward and return journeys are approximately 45 minutes by car

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle

Exclusions: Lunch

Communication with the manager via whatsapp was very good, despite the slightly makeshift look of the office everything felt absolutely professional. I made a reservation before our arrival and had to alter the deal slightly, the manager handled everything perfectly and was very forthcoming. The Renault Duster we rented left nothing to ask for, sure it had some visual signs of usage as expected for a car thats driven off road a lot, but despite of this it was 100% functional. Only slight downside was that we couldn't connect our smartphones to the stereo via bluetooth. I recommend bringing an Aux cable if music is important to you, just in case.

10. Private Tour of Ervatao and North with Boa Vista and Cape Verde

La Perla Boavista

We cross the whole island of Boa Vista on the famous cobblestone road created by the farmers of the north, to reach the Ervatao nature reserve, an ideal place for spawning Carreta Carreta turtles, which normally takes place from June to October. A beautiful beach and a gigantic and centuries-old baobab tree. We then continue to the Morro Nero lighthouse and the typical colorful and flowery villages, where time seems to stand still. The outward and return journeys take about 1 hour each way, you can stop to take photos when you wish.

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Antibacterial gel available for travelers

Exclusions: Lunch
