Blackburn Cathedral

Blackburn Cathedral is one of England's newest cathedrals, yet it is one of the country's oldest places of Christian worship. For many centuries, this has been the Parish Church of Blackburn dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin. It continues as a place of prayer and worship and is now at the centre of the Diocese which takes in almost the whole of Lancashire.

We went to a Christmas do in the Cathedral and were amazed, at this stunning location. The lighting was ethereal the layout of the tables fantastic, then going down into the crypt, for drinks and dancing, just amazing.

We were a group of friends who booked in to the cookery school. The welcome breakfast was fabulous. We then spent the day in the private kitchen being shown how to cook a three course meal .
Lisa Allen is a fabulous we'll know chef and also appears on TV.
She was professional with a great sense of humour . Her pride in her team and Northcote is wonderful to hear. It was full hands on day with really serious cooking , I never thought I could make dumplings or bake , she made it look so easy !
We would all recommend a day at the cookery school !
Thank you to Lisa and her team !

We wanted to try something a little different this year for my sons party and having had a go at archery at a couple of events with wood sage we decided to book a party. We went for nerf combat and air rifle. The place itself is huge and you can see the scouts doing other activities whilst you are there and without a doubt we will be back to try that zip wire!!
Overall we had 15 boisterous boys who didn't stop. They had a superb time playing various games with a break in the middle so they could cook their own sausages on an open fire in the teepee. Simon was fantastic with them. My partner wants to work/live/play there (he's only 39....) I can't stress enough how much the boys enjoyed it, I've had loads of messages saying from parents saying their children are still talking about it. 10/10. Thank you, so much.

Samlesbury Hall

Built in 1325 Samlesbury Hall is steeped in fascinating history, retaining its original typical black and white exterior, the Hall is almost equidistant between Blackburn and Preston, yet retaining a rural feel. Saved from demolition in the 1920’s by six local businessmen, it remains in the Charitable Trust today with the aim of maintaining and keeping open for the visitors to enjoy. With the turbulent history of catholic families, the haunting of Lady Dorothy Southworth (and others), a captivating insight into life from the early 14th to the early 20th Century is all waiting to be discovered.Samlesbury Hall also offers the very best of Lancashire, with Exhibitions from local artists, antiques and collectibles and a gift shop, which sells high quality Lancashire produce. The extensive grounds are delightful and even include a small selection of animals in an ever increasing menagerie. The Gardens also feed the kitchen and the award-winning restaurant and coffee lounge.Samlesbury Hall is open to visitors all year round and promises something for all the family

This is a wonderful place to simply relax and be pampered. While my wife was pampered in the excellent Spa, I chilled out wandering around the beautiful Gardens before sampling an afternoon tipple. Pure bliss. All the facilities are first class, the place is spotlessly clean with no expense spared. The only downside was dinner. The Grill on the Hill does not open on Sunday and Monday evenings and some of the Bistro food was very average, especially the overpriced sirloin steak. Apart from that, highly recommended.

We visited on a very cold snowy day and fortunately there were no coach parties visiting. There are large areas of clothing for sale but it is not exactly cutting edge fashion. There are numerous cafes and a furniture shop.
There is an interesting exhibition on the Accrington Pals. For me the highlight was the butchers and delicatessen where I bought some excellent local produce.
