It is within the Birmingham-Hoover, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, of which Jefferson County is the center. It developed rapidly as an industrial city in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This is a place everyone should visit at least once. It truly is an old juke joint with lots of music especially blues. GIP'S has been open since 1952, Saturday nights only, this is his home. Whatever you want to drink bring it. They do not sell alcohol. Music is for everyone and everyone is welcome. Generally there are difference musicians that perform. You never know who will show up. Mr. Gip will be 99 on Jan 6, 2019. The neighbors in the past have tried to close him down, too much traffic and too noisy. From what I observed their homes were built long after Mr. Gip was entertaining on Saturday nights. I would encourage you to google/research the history of GIP'S Place it would be terrible to loose such a historical place. This was my first visit but it will not be my last. Keeping going Mr,.GIP!!!

Under new ownership since 2014, Alabama Splash Adventure has added many new attractions and has restored the Rampage wooden roller coaster. The park offers free parking, free soft drinks, free sunscreen, and free inner tubes.

Between the underrated attractions, clean park, and friendly staff, Alabama Splash Adventure is a great place to visit throughout the late spring and summer. We love the lazy river, water slides, and the Rampage roller coaster (a hidden gem in the region). While the park's past includes numerous troubled eras, the new park owners (the Koch family) have done wonders with the park. Their dedication to it and the region is apparent, and we cannot wait to see what they do next. For those people looking to enjoy the attractions without extra large crowds, stop by during the week or on Sundays in the summer. However, the experience is always fun and enjoyable during the peak operating days, and the free soda, sunscreen, and parking makes it an amazing value!
