Benson Park Sculpture Garden

Largest juried outdoor sculpture show in the United States, takes place each year over the second weekend in August.

Reviewed By nowincolorado - Colorado Springs, CO

When visiting Denver, we wanted to explore the outdoors, get fresh air, and do some walking/hiking and thought this sculpture garden would be a perfect way to start! It is #1 on Tripadvisor for Loveland.

We were a bit disappointed by how small the park is. We printed a map first which showed lots and lots of sculptures but when we got there they didn’t line up with the map.

We saw a good variety of sculptures – some we liked and some we found just a bit strange. The best part of our walk was watching birds quarrel in a tree and squirrels playing tag near by. Which does make me wonder how this park got such a top rating in tripadvisor?

VERY disappointed in this production of Kiss Me Kate! Right from the beginning. We have been season ticket holders for several years and rarely have been this disappointed. In fact, this is the first time we left immediately at intermission. The food was not very good. The cod wasn't cooked all the way and I left a third of it on my plate. The flavor was good though and had it been thoroughly cooked would have been a higher rating for food. The chicken was ok, 3 small pieces-no white meat. Let's work on getting a new chef!! Food has been poor this year and that is a main reason why we are not getting tickets for season 11. We will pick and choose to what to see and eat at the diner down the road and see the show in the balcony! The show itself: POOR...music wasn't music, just screeching. Just not enjoyable to watch. They have put on better plays with better performers. I'm sorry, but this show can not be recommended at this time. Save your money if you don't have season tickets.

An institution in itself, when I informed a friend that I was visiting Longmont, she immediately stated that I needed to visit the brewery. I am glad that I did because I now know why it is considered an institution, nitro infused beer – sort of like Guinness! A relatively small place, looks like a converted log house, but it’s homey and the beer outstanding.
I’m a visitor so it doesn’t affect me, but not being dog friendly seems so out of the place in outdoorsy Colorado, thus the decrement in rating.
My visits to the area will include a visit to the Left Hand Brewery.

We stayed at Flatirons Reservoir just above Carter lake. They have 3 sites with TP's on them to rent and they are spacious. We are a family of 6 and there was plenty of room for 3 air mattresses. The lake was stocked with trout and we caught 8 in 2 days. Carter lake marina is nearby and has ice, wood and miscellaneous supplies for sale. We rented a boat on carter lake which was very nice. Great place to take the family. Very few bugs.

Devil's Backbone Nature Trail

This is a staple hike at our home. It is beautiful year round. There is a hike for everyone. The trails are well maintained and the main attraction (the keyhole with sweeping views of the Front Range) are accessible within the first 1-1.5 miles of the hike. There are three loops for those who want a longer jaunt. When our kids were small we would only do the first loop with the views. Now that they are tweens we do the second and third loops. Please note that the keyhole is sometimes closed in the spring for nesting critters.

Berthoud Brewing Company

We started a Friday afternoon trek from northern Colorado into the hell called Denver and opted out of the usual traffic nightmare at the Berthoud exit, intending to call it quits and go back home. We took a break in Berthoud at the Brewing Company, a fortunate find. Great place with tasty brews. Food is limited to popcorn and nachos, which was fine with us. We just needed a break from I-25 and they did a great job. They're concentrating on great beer and a great environment. Live and impromptu entertainment can occur at any time, sometimes in the form of a guitar player, sometimes in the form of a patron's pet. Dogs are encouraged, which is a sign for us of a great place. The sooner we can return for a visit, the better.

The museum has good local exhibits regarding the growth of Loveland and particularly the sugar beet industry together with interesting displays relating to Valentines and the Big Thompson River. In addition we saw the excellent Picasso exhibition which had a very good selection of his work which was well displayed.

Rabbit Mountain

Reviewed By Jodi R - Loveland, Colorado

We are avid hikers, and are always looking for locations that permit us to bring our Siberian Husky to hike with us (on leash).

We hiked all of the various loops at Rabbit Mountain with our dog a couple days following some snowfall, and had minimal crowds as a result, which was fantastic. Trails (in my opinion) are easy (to moderate in some areas). Lovely 360 views from the top, and great trail conditions overall. These are well maintained trails.

We didn't encounter any dogs off leash, which we appreciated, but based on other reviews, maybe just a lucky experience on our end. Either way, we were pleased.

There is a sunscreen dispenser at the trailhead (nice touch), for those who may have forgotten theirs, bags for your dog, and bathroom facilities...all super clean and well maintained. There is limited parking, so do plan accordingly on the weekends or days you may think will be busy, and arrive early.

Great trail system with several options to shorten or lengthen your time on the trail. Close to town, so an easy hike to fit into a busier day.
