If you enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh air and family fun, try Eckart’s Farm in Belleville, IL. Park the car and take a ride in a tractor drawn cart through the acres of fields and groves where you can “pick your own” from trees, bushes or rows. Something new for each growing season. Free Field Pass on Mondays! For the less ambitious, try the Eckert’s family store where you can purchase their home canned offerings, or dine in the Eckert’s Cafe.

National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

We have been coming to the Shrine since I was a child. My family originates from the Belleville area. So many fond memories of coming here each session. The lights are free to see, which is unusual for the St Louis Metro area. They do ask for a donation, in which you are gifted a stuffed animal or book (new this year-Build a Bear stuffed animals). Each animal in years past has the year embroidered into it and its fun to pull these out each holiday season to see and remember my kiddos faces seeing the lights there each year. There are many other things to do here with the LEGO exhibits and other indoor and outdoor activities, but we have not done those in years so can’t speak to how they are. The grounds and aura of this special place are so beautiful. We enjoy this place and are full of fond memories from each trip here.
