What to do and see in Belize City, Belize District: The Best Tours

February 7, 2022 Tonie Szymanski

Located on the east coast of Belize at the mouth of the Belize River, Belize City sits on a peninsula jutting into the Caribbean Sea. As the nation's main port, the city is a hub for cruise ships and is often a jumping-off spot for excursions to other parts of Belize, including the Cayo District's caves and Maya archaeological sites along the Macal and Belize rivers. Belize City boasts the only manual swing bridge in the world and the oldest Anglican cathedral in Central America.

My husband and I had a great time here. It's a small hotel with a very accommodating staff. The owner, Christine, really cares, and wants you to enjoy your stay. You eat breakfast there, and lunch and dinner out. It's a very good value for the money. The rooms are rustic, but comfortable and clean. It's kind of a family atmosphere. They take you on different fun activities, and because the groups are small, they'll make a quick stop at the store if you need something. We were headed back from a day out, and going by the Belize Zoo, and our driver agreed to stop there for us, and proceeded to guide us through. I have to compliment him. His name is Alvaro, and we enjoyed talking to him, and getting to know him a bit. When we left, we even told him to look us up if he was ever in Chicago. He definitely went out of his way for the group, which was nice. I would definitely recommend Orchid Garden.

We absolutely loved our tour with Paul! Pick up from Belize Express started off our adventure to Altun Ha... We amazingly had the place to ourselves! And Paul took the time to explain the ruins and the surrounding areas to us, climbed the steps and took some great pictures for/of us. We then had any amazing lunch at the Teaky Tavern followed by exploring the forests and caves... Perfect weather, great company! We would definitely recommend booking your private tour with Paul, you will not regret it!

This was such a great tour! They picked us up from the hotel promptly. The drive felt so short to the site because there was lot to see on the way. Our guide was great, he gave us alot of information and led us safetly up the structures. Sometimes slowly because they're definitely tall! The tour in total was roughly 3 hours which gave us alot of time in the day to go see other parts of Belize.

We did a tour of Xunantunich Mayan Ruins, ziplined, and kayaked the caves branch river with V.I.V. tours while staying in San Ignacio and couldn't have more great things to say about them. The lunch was tasty, the price was reasonable, and the guides were very knowledgeable and fun. They were able to accommodate a last minute request for the tour (we contacted them at 7pm the evening before) and even picked us up from our hotel. 10 out of 10 recommend these guys!

During our recent travels to Belize, we were fortunate to discover Up Close Belize through the hotel we stayed at on our first night. We had a positively wonderful time on the Cave Tubing, Zipline, and Altun Ha Temple tour with our guide, Joel. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the areas we traveled to as part of the tour as well as the many other Belize-related questions we asked him. He was a delight to spend the day with and learn from. Because we had such a positive experience with Joel, we booked our snorkeling trip (to Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan on Ambergris Caye) as well as the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM Cave) with Up Close Belize also. Our guide for the ATM Cave, Auner) was also fantastic. Overall, we were very pleased with the quality of the tours, tour guides, and communication with the company. We would highly recommend exploring Belize with the exceptional guides of Up Close Belize!

We will take you back in time and share the history of the Mayan people and way of life and we are also allowed to climb all the temples. When cave tubing we are still sharing and having fun in relation to the Mayan culture as the cave system represents their underworld (Hell) This is a fun trip for family and friends. It’s going to be a twice the fun in one day experience.

We are the first -- and only -- provider of super stretch, 20 passenger, SUV limousines in the country of Belize. When you go on one of Belize's amazing day tours, learn about our culture, visit our fabulous ruins and caves, and explore our wildlife adventures, why do so bouncing around in a circa-1980 panel van with a distracted driver/guide yelling over his shoulder at you? Instead, ride with a professional limo driver dedicated to only one thing -- your safety. Take a deep and meaningful dive into our culture with a top-flight guide, who accompanies you inside the limo, faces you, eye to eye, answering all your questions and catering to all your needs. Breakfast, lunch, spirits, all included. You spend more time getting to these sites than enjoying them, so why not make the transportation part of the experience? It's your vacation, after all. This tour is perfect for groups of 6-16 or so wanting a private experience.

Inclusions: Cave tubing and zip lining equipment, Alcoholic Beverages, Air-conditioned vehicle, Private transportation, Lunch, Breakfast, Soda/Pop, Bottled water

Exclusions: Transportation fees to and from Belize City, where tours depart from, are not included.

So much to say about our favorite day. David was referred to us by my sister who loved their tour. They couldn't say enough about David. We had the pleasure of having Oscar as our guide. Amber also with us as she was a super facilitator of our day. Oscar was very knowledgable and knew everything about everything. He was easy to talk to and was extra helpful in our extra needs. They were both mindful of our travel contraints and were accommodating. Lunch was super yummy which is their family business. The zoo was so much fun. Oscar knew so much about the history of the animals and park. The cave tubing was the best. We were able to explore behind the scenes and do some extra swimming. The day was perfect. I hope to send plenty more people back to them. Best day ever...

After an incredibly long delay to clear immigration, Lilia was waiting for us as soon as we exited the airport. Camerson, our driver, drove us to our hotel in Dangriga. Cameron is an excellent driver and has a has knowledge of Belize. The 2.5 hour drive to Dangriga and the return after our stay passed in no time as Cameron shared many interesting things about Belize. Cameron was early at our pick up to return us to the airport. We even stopped to lunch before our flight at a great restaurant Cameron recommended. Definitely 5 star service.
