Yangmingshan National Park

Embrace nature and flower gardens with a picnic or leisurely hike up the rolling hillsides of Yangmingshan. The park is accessible by public bus.

Would recommend to hike Mt Qixing from Xiaoyukeng as the entrance to the trail is just next to the bus stop at the Xiaoyukeng Recreation Area. Do use the toilets there as there are none along the trail. I took bus 260 at Taipei Main Station (north exit 2) to the Yangminshan Bus Terminal. Transfer to small shuttle bus 108 that makes its round in the park. Easycard is acceptable or have exact change of NTD15/ride. Took about 1.5hrs to Mt Qixing Main Peak, another 15mins to the East peak & another hour downhill to Lengshukeng Recreation & Visitors Centre. Was a lovely hike on a sunny day with 360degrees of Taipei.

Hot spring Street Xingyi Road

Reviewed By Hiroshi317 - Yokohama, Japan

This area is not famous than Briton. But I prefer here than others. Because quality of hot spring is very unique. It’s looks like Tohoku district in Japan. There are 10 or more spa and all of them has large bath and private bath. This time we visited Sakuraoka which has private bathes. White sulfur spring. One hour include fill the bath with hot water and it’s enough time to enjoy. We would like to visit all hot spring at Xingyi district. Here take a 508 root bus from central market bus stop near the Shirai MRT station. And get off Xingyi 3 street.

Beitou Public Library, Taipei

Beitou is famous for its hot springs, some of which are near the library. I have a friend who lives nearby, so I have been there often. My friend loves books, she was a history teacher, and the Beitou library has an excellent monograph (book) collection. You can also read newspapers and magazines. The library is nicely constructed. It's well worth a visit. It's popular with older patrons, who like reading the papers. Youngsters enjoy the children's section.

Xiaoyoukeng Recreation Area

Reviewed By maryyeo - Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Tips to enjoy this place: 1) Book a private car especially if you want to walk less yet cover more spots on this Yangmingshan mountain national park. Car drop off point is only 50 metres to the viewing point of Xiaoyoukeng. 2) Be nerdy, read up in advance on Xiaoyoukeng, means "small oil pit" on Mt Qixing - highest point in Taipei at 1120 metres above sea level so from here, you'll be able to see the rest of the mountains. Great to plan this as a first stop and work your way down. Love reading the informative and clear information panels at the viewing points at this park. 3) If you're into geography and rock formations etc, the museum at nearby Lengshuikeng (not Xiaoyoukeng) Recreation Area is the one that displays and explains the different kinds of rocks and their formations, as well as the use of these fumes/ fumaroles. 4) Xiaoyoukeng is famous for the sulphur-dioxide 'yellow gas' emitting from the fumaroles on this volcano. Beware of some small ones along the footpath too. Super cool and ethereal sight, especially with the mountain full of silver grass. One of favourite wedding photoshoot spots. Also because the famous Sun Yanzi shot her 天黑黑Cloudy Day MTV here. 5) Check the weather before going. Best to visit on clear sunny summer days and avoid cloudy winter days. But you never know, we visited on 11th November, the beginning of winter and the day was extremely clear! It could be just a tolerable 15 degrees celsius but the winds will send the chills down your spine. Bring wind breaker jackets.

9am to 5pm Closed on Mondays A natural hot sulfur spring where the water temperature can reach up to 100°C.

Reviewed By PaulSiow - Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

We took the metro to Beitou station and then had to take a special train to Xinbeitou station. From here, we walked to Beitou Thermal Valley. It was an easy walk. Just follow the direction and crowd. You could see the steam coming out from the pool. Nice place and free to visit. The natural sulphuric spring has very high temperatures. You can boil eggs here.

Calla Lilies originated in Africa, but they grow very well in Taiwan's mountain climate. The quaint village of Zhuzihu, hidden away near Yangmingshan is famous for its Calla Lilies. The unique geology, which has a volcanic origin, was once used for rice terraces There are also bamboo forests and cherry trees. The Calla Lily Festival is held in March and April, when the flowers bloom. The unique geology has produced much interesting flora. By the way, there is a fee to enter the gardens.

Beitou Park

Beitou Park is situated along the central part of the Beitou River at the tail end of Yangmingshan National Park. The six-hectare park can be reached by walking from Xinbeitou MRT Station in the direction of Diregu (Hell Valley), another visit-worthy attraction adjacent to the park. Park facilities include a hot spring education center, hokutolite conservation area, administration center, indoor and outdoor bathing springs, a children's hot spring play area, and a topiary maze. One of the highlights at the park is a series of five small waterfalls, with hot spring pools at each of the falls. The well-planned hot spring area is also an excellent spot to fully enjoy a spring bath. Another park attraction is the Plum Pavilion. Built during the latter part of the Japanese occupation period, the tree-shaded pavilion offers a cool spot to relax. The pavilion has been designated by the Taipei City Government as a historic building. Enjoy a hot spring soak and the rich culture and history of Beitou at Beitou Park!

Have you seen a park with over 200 years history? Can you imagine in the center of a metropolitan city like Taipei, you can find a place like Kyoto with hills, ponds with lotus, with a poetic clean stream running through it? Beitou library is well known to visitors abroad, it is Japanese style, features a pagoda in the front, the singing stream running on the side, a natural water-lily / lotus pond on one side with access bridge to the library, and another newish pond on the other. There are Japanese style hotels sitting besides the hill. The Ketagelan culture center is next if you're interested in local history and culture. The Beitou train station is also a stylish building. Remember, you will smell sulfur there as Beitou is famous for its hotsprings. Enjoy the hotspring with families and friends ! The Beitou Park a great plus for your hotspring trip.
