Caribou River

Mile hike round trip. First time visiting this falls. Worthwhile stop along the shore. There are some steep steps at the end, but there are railings. There is also a viewing platform for those who choose not to go all the way down. First photo is from that platform.

Palisade Head

This is a short drive to the top for some truly incredible views. A word of caution do not leave young children unattended it is a shear drop of hundreds of feet. on almost any day in the summer you will see rock climbers ascending the various routes on the cliff face. The view is so dramatic that several motion pictures have been filed at this location. Another plus is that this area of the Minnesota north shore of lake Superior has the highest concentration of waterfalls anywhere in the contiguous United States. We have visited many of them over a dozen times times and are still awestruck. I should make a separate review of the high fall of the Baptism river inside the state park in silver Bay a few miles away. You will run out of time before you run out of amazing scenery.

Great place to see both local rocks and gems as well as others from all over the world. They also have the largest collection of Thomsonite which is only found on the shores of Lake Superior. Family run business by the Bartels. Very friendly and gracious owners who purchased this business almost 20 years ago and are still going strong. Love the personal service and my customized Thomsonite pendant wrapped in gold by Amber. This is the best rock and gem store in the Midwest and beyond. Don't miss it on your next visit up the North shore of Lake Superior!

Second Hand Rose

She's open and setting up! Made an early trip this year, and scored some vintage Fiestaware pieces! Very nice collection on hard to find items. Brownie points a coming from the wife! She's been looking for this lipped ice pitcher for years! This is a must stop! It gets better every year.
