Bavaro Beach

The Bavarro Beaches have lovely soft sand and they are very clean. There is always a brisk chilly wind, and the water gets deep fast. Tides come in quickly - small children can get knocked over easily. It is not easy right swim, but riding the waves on a body board is fun. The water is chillier than expected - you should be aware that the beach is 10-15F cooler than it will be inside the resort areas. The area is safe and the sellers are respectful. There are a lot of smokers - this can be very annoying.

We were picked up promptly at our hotel, short drive to our starting point and we were off. I used the fat tire ebike and my husband, the cyclist, didn’t turn his power assist on. The guide and driver were both excellent, adjusting the bikes to suit us. Our driver would meet us occasionally with snacks and water. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Dominican Republic history and local life in the small villages we rode through. We saw many birds found only here on Hispaniola. There were some tough spots with rocks and mud but we made it. Had to cross a small river that was slightly flooded so we walked across. A fun morning!

Jesus Maestro Parish

We attended Mass on Saturday evening. The service was entirely in Spanish so didn't understand what was being said. Tried to say the prayers we normally would in English but could not keep up as the Spanish was messing me up. It is a lovely little church and was so close to our resort that we were able to walk in about 7 minutes.

Cave Oleg Bat House

My husband wanted to make this a extra special excursion for us. He arrange a private buggie tour for us and Wild Tiger gave us our monies worth! We started out clean and ready to go.....ended very dirty with grit in our hair and teeth mixed with horse dung :) Our tour guide gave us as much time as we needed at the breath taking Macao beach and Oleg Bat cave. We both were able to drive and felt very safe at every turn. There were too many local vendors but in a poor country you need to expect that....don't forget to barter! At the cave a young lady put a flower in my hair where I was more than willing to give her the last of my American money....I would do this again in a heartbeat
