This traditional village is a must do if you're in the area but remember to get a guide. Our local guide gave us information on history and the inner workings of the matriarcal society they live in. The animalism focus of religion was similarly explained with the enthusiasm and humour only found with a local guide who continues to live this way of life. It's a very fascinating place and a beautifully simple way of life.
It's quite open so wearing a hat would be advised and remember to take water but no visit to Bajawa will be complete without a visit here.

Difficult place to reach (poor road) and hardly developed for tourism, so sleeping is basic. But still worth to go there if you have the time.
The coral is of varying quality, but some spots are defintely worth the trip.
The captain of the boat prepared a excellent BBQ lunch.
In the village, make sure to visit Rico Rico near the beach for wonderful food and cold Bintang!

Donation to sit in hot Springs. This is where two rivers join. The cold one from the streams and a hot one heated underground by volcano so slight sulphur smell. Not far from road.

Springs are nice and very warm.
No real bathroom or changing rooms.
Garbage left behind.
Some people kill their chickens and grill them next to the Springs.
A few tourists and many locals.
Women bathe with a t-shirt and pants because the surrounding villages are muslim .

We have rented a motorcycle and explored the area on our own. There are many beautiful traditional villages where people still live the traditional way of life. The houses are very unique with lot of history.
What we found incredible, were the people. On few occasions we had to stop to look at a map, and suddenly there was always a local stopping asking if we need a help and trying to point us to the correct direction, just out of goodness of the heart. These people are so nice and genuine that they have won our hearts.

We couldn't gain the top.
Definitly to recommend for sporty people. The hike is very steep and more like stairs.
Lots of rumbles and loose rocks and the way down is very difficult and unstable.
Even at almost the top the view of the sunrise was beautiful and worth the effort made.
It gets very cold - make sure you are properly covered to start the ascent.

Charming and welcoming indigenous Ngada village. Can be explored on a 3 hour trek from Bena which also includes Gurusina. We did our trek with Alfredo Sua who has an eco tour office along the tourist hotel road on the outskirts of town. His small offices has a plaque "tourist Information" not to be mistaken from the bigger official Flores Tourist Information a few meters further along the street. Alfredo speaks good English and has a background in tourism and comes from Bajawa so knows a lot about flora, fauna and culture.

Beautifull walk into the heights of Bajawa, it takes around 90min to go up. The views are amazing but the vulcano lake is a bit disappointing if you have allready seen Kelimutu. Walk can be don without a guide, After 60min there is a coffeebar which also serves cold refreshments.

This is a relatively new market in Bajawa. It's located 5 km east from the town, but because the road's condition, it will take around 20 minutes drive.
But it's a very nice place to see what the locals sell and buy. We bought some fruits (avocado, mangosteen, durians) and spices. They also sell traditionally woven fabric (Tenun Ikat).
You can bargain, but don't bargain too low as they are not like sellers who target tourists.
