Wonderful town with old beam buildings. Great shops for clothes, shoes, chocolate , wine whatever! Friendly people in stores. Go to tourist information center, obtain map that has the walking trail and explanations of each site. Husband even got hair and beard cut!

It's a 16c medieval clock with 2 faces in the old town that doesn't work.
There's not a lot more you can say about it. Interesting as part of a walking tour around the town, but not worth seeking out for its own sake... unless you're into medieval clocks that don't work.

The Caves Bailly Lapierre are located in the heart of the Auxerrois, above the town of St Bris le Vineux. Created in 1972, the Caves Bailly Lapierre gather together 71 winegrowers who sell their cremants, the Caves' specialty, and wines on site. Dug deep in the stone, the wine caves are used as a cradle in which to create cremants. Guided tours of the caves are organized every day from 2:30 to 5:30 pm, in july and august, and from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on weekends and bank holidays.

Originally a quarry providing stone for famous buildings in Paris, you can drive in or walk up to this wonderful wine cave from the River Yonne if visiting by boat. A lovely range of local wines from this co-operative include Irancy, St Bris and of course their famous Cremant de Bourgogne

With the Cathedral, Abby and Saint Peters in the same small area this ticket church gets overlooked but is worth looking at if you are passing by. The entrance is on the other side from the street. Don't be misled by the outside. Inside it has been cleaned and has a lovely atmosphere.

We've been to Auxerre many times over the years but never been to this church before.
Unless you have a special interest in visiting every church possible, this one is the least interesting, in my lay opinion, in Auxerre.
There's not even any nice stained glass to look at.
Sorry, but it's just a boring grey church.
There is an interesting 'Romanesque' arch in front of the entrance, but I know no more than that.

This free exhibit is very well done. Word of caution: the explanatory signs are only in French, so it has limited use for English speaking people, but even so you get the drift of what went on thousands of years ago.

Stumbled across this park after visiting the nearby castle and although I was a little surprised at the €9 entry fee it soon became worth while. We wandered down the track and came across some wild boar in pens (presumably breeding?) and then through the forest. Eventually we witnessed a bit of a red stag rut, although they were either side of a fence! We also came across some very large stags near the pond and also some fallow. A great place to spend a sunny afternoon. I would recommend walking shoes and perhaps a picnic.
