Highly recommend taking this route instead of the worlds longest tunnel. Raw nature, sheep, small “ice bergs”, lakes, rivers, snow, raw rock and breath taking views - basically what you would expect going over the mountain. Would love to take my bike on this route some time as well - bring warm cloth ;)

Skaldegard

WELCOME TO OUR FARM Come and visit an old farmstead that clings to the mountain-side and enjoys splendid views over the fjord and surrounding mountains. Skaldegard invites small groups to come and learn about the local area’s natural environment, history, agriculture and way of life, both past and present. Your visit will include a guided tour of the historic farm buildings. Inside the lovingly restored barn you get to try home-made lefse, a traditional Norwegian flatbread. Then we take you on a journey through Norwegian folklore to a world where trolls and huldra live. Welcome!

What a wonderful experience of a traditional farm in Norway! The visit is filled with information and warm hospitality. We heard about the creation of the fjords while enjoying an outdoor fire and hot drinks, and continued with a tour of the buildings and tastings of traditional goat cheese and flatbread. The views of the fjord are truly spectacular. The hostess, An-Margritt, described historical farming ways, displayed old tools, and told engaging stories about the trolls and huldra –in excellent English!

On the hills surrounded by powerful mountains, and with a spectacular view of the fjord, you will find Otternes Farm. The farm consisting of 27 buildings, each with its own function, was probably cleared for cultivation before the Black Death. In addition the old cultural landscape with hills, wells, stairs and stone structure is intact. Experience old handcraft techniques and food made in traditional style. Open: 1000-1700 daily. Guided tours at: 10.00 + 12.00 +14.00 + 16.00.

We were here in mid August and were th only ones. You can walk here from Flam. We were driving and it is 1 or 2 minutes off the main road between Flam & Aurland. Spectacular views down to the fjord. We got to explore the old buildings without crowds.

Brekkefossen

Reviewed By 775callumw

A mere 20 minute walk from the port you’ll walk over the waterfall’s lower river before seeing a sign and turning right up a steep path, this then changes into steps and then steep natural paths which takes 30 minutes from the road you’ll see a clearing and a view point sign, do not continue up as the terrain gets harder and there are no viewpoints for another 30mins or so. I’d only advise this if you are okay shape and confident as it can be a bit slippery and steep especially on the way down. The viewpoint is incredible, the full length of the waterfall captures the left side of the view and the rest is filled with Flåm, the fjords and The Valley which the railway follows. I could have sat there for hours.
