The WOW factor here is huge! Had no idea as to the extent and depth of displays, autos and information so well presented in the museum. This has been a drive-by destination for years. Finally planned this "drive-by" into our travel schedule, last weekend, for a couple of hours. To do this justice, and the neighboring National Auto & Truck Museum, one could easily use a couple of days.
When we paid our fee for the ACD Museum we got a "Passport" with discounted rates to seven other museums in the immediate area. Needless to say we will be making return visits, with lots more time built into the schedule.

National Automotive and Truck Museum (NATMUS)

Reviewed By Brian_in_Reno - Reno, Nevada

The museum consists of over 100 cars and trucks from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Housed in two levels of what was once the production facility of the Auburn Automobile Company. Vehicles from many brands are represented in a storage garage like setting. Not all of the vehicles had interpretive signage to help identify the year, make and model. Nice to see an automotive museum giving due attention to trucks and commercial vehicles. Old Checker cabs, fire engines, police cars and wagons, delivery trucks, and oil company fuel trucks help represent the range of automobile applications They also have an extensive collection of automobile models, toys and kiddie cars as well. The recreation of old service stations, displays of gas pumps from the past, and the restoration of a Valentine Diner add to the history of transportation in America. Located behind the classy Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum. Lots of free parking. There is a small admission charge that is discounted with the DeKalb County Museum Alliance Passport available for free at any of the eight museums in the county.

For only $4 if you visited other museums in Auburn iam impressed of the amount of articels the "small" building got. Anyway there are intended to build it much bigger in the spring of 2017 and the plans are to have the new museum up and running before the spring of 2019.

We went to the military museum and this was just across the building. Several of these cars I had seen years ago and when the Carl Kasper show stopped in my town. It's a unique combination of collections as there are also some historic carriages and my favorites, Scott Brayton's IndyCars from the 90's. There are several movie and TV cars as well.

It may be a little out of the way but was very nice for a winery that is about couple years old. Their wine selection leans toward the sweeter side and more on the whites vs reds. They had plenty of seating both inside and out and their staff was friendly and informative.

We plan to come back on an evening with their live music.

Definitely keeping this on the list of places to return to.

If you are traveling through Auburn to go see the museums, be sure to stop by and see this historic building. The original structure was built beyond the standards of the typical 1930s library. Be sure to check out the fireplace in the main reading room and also view the stained glass windows on the second floor.

This courthouse is absolutely beautiful. Marble, granite and wood with lots of stained glass, too. It's a working courthouse but well worth a visit. There are Art Deco touches and it's been beautifully kept up. It would be a treat to work here. The rotunda is lovely with paintings and stained glass. There are three floors and there are a number of display cases along the landings of the stairs that have all kinds of interesting memorabilia from the local area pertaining to the early settlement, military participation in a number of wars, and also the contents of their cornerstone that they opened. Great place to visit.

Eckhart Park

Reviewed By rhondab659 - Fort Wayne, Indiana

I've been going to Eckhart Park since I was very small. The park’s 10 plus acres was established in 1905 as a gift to the city from the Eckhart family. Many of the large trees are well over a hundred year old, and there are a lot of trees. Cedar Creek runs through the middle of the park and helps keep it cool during the summer.

As you drive in, to the immediate left is a large ball field with bleachers, and the park office. As you get closer to the gate, turn right into the parking lot. On the west side of the lot is the community swimming pool, which is always busy in the summer. To the east side of the lot is the park.

There’s so much to do there. There is the ball field, of course. There are also a couple of volleyball courts by the pool. There are two children’s play areas and two covered picnic shelters on opposite sides of the park, and an enclosed pavilion for large parties. Cedar Creek makes a nice background sound rushes along, and is the reason for the two bridges in the park. There are several picnic tables scattered around the park, and two porch swings to sit on and contemplate nature. Last year, the Auburn Parks Department even had a couple of hammocks set up. A wide paved walkway goes all around the park, and over both bridges; it makes a nice shady walk on a summer’s day, or to ride bicycles or skateboards on. On the far side of the park is a nature trail that runs through a small woods; there are little signs that expound on various trees and plants along the trail. The park also backs up to a cemetery on the far end of the park. There’s even a restroom.

There’s a lot to do at the park, and many activities set up throughout the year. There are special walks and activities for Halloween and Christmas, as well as several types of events during the summer. Families and clubs can book the enclosed pavilion for reunions or private events. Every year the Auburn Cord Duesenburg committee books the entire park as part of its Labor Day week long events.

So, come down to the park. Have a picnic and stroll under the trees. Bring the kids and the dog along. Go down by the creek and look at all the fascinating rocks and watch the water rush by. Play in the play areas or the ball field, or have a game of catch or Frisbee in the open areas. Go into woods and look at all the plants. Swim in the pool. Have fun.
