With Kavala as our base, we drove to this nearby ancient site. Walking past the theatre and gazing at the various vestiges of historical changes that have occurred on this site, that is still being excavated and reconstructed, we eventually visited the small interesting museum. The Greek, Roman and Christian artefacts offer an insight into a seminal period in Western history.

This is a fascinating place to take refuge and cool off on a hot summer day in Drama: the Santa Barbara Park has small lakes, Waterfalls, and Fountains created from the turquoise Springs. The trees provide a lot of shade which coupled with the water makes the air cool and fresh.
The Park has long trails and paths and a few small wooden Bridges. The water is chrystal clear and home to ducks, swans and fish.
All around there are restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Of particular interest and beauty at one end is the Hydrama Hotel, the first 5 star-hotel in Drama housed in a renovated old tobacco warehouse. In the small pavillon next to it during our visit, the short film festival was taking place.
Definitely a must do in Drama.

Alykes beach

Nice big beach, flat and kid-friendly.
Shallow water, very clear and safe.
3 beach bars to choose from, all playing their music- sometimes this gets a bit much with overlapping tunes.
Lots of space on the beach if you bring your own gear or play ball.
Parking only steps away.
There is more private Beaches on the island, but this is probably the biggest beach here.
