Street Sculptures

Reviewed By M J - Austin, Texas

My husband and I spent one night in Artesia, NM in route to Carlsbad. We arrived early enough to drive up and down the US 82 in the daylight. We were amused at the street sculptures along one mile of the road. One park was especially nice because there was a water feature and multiple sculptures. The sculptures were all about cowboys and oil. Old west. The town is especially neat and clean. Be sure to spend some time looking at the sculptures if you go through Artesia. They really cool.

Artesia Public Library

Spotted this building when it was all lit up at night. Went inside and talked with a nice woman inside who pointed out the fabulous mural by Peter Hurd. This mural had been removed from a building that was to be torn down. This is a beautiful library. If I lived in Artesia, I'd be reading there every night!

Cottonwood Wine and Brewing

We love New Mexico Wineries, and we really had to search for this out of the way winery.

A locals hang out, their selection of wines is not that great, but they do offer St. Clair wines. Their own Cotton Wood chardonnay i highly recommend for a smooth taste.

The inside of the winery is quite pleasant, and the staff really helpful and friendly. We only bought 2 bottles. Should have bought a case.

Going back through there in October. Will buy a couple of cases.

Land of the Sun Theater

Reviewed By Technah - Artesia, New Mexico

The Land of the Sun (locally known as the LandSun) theater is an old historic theater that has been remodeled and had its neon restored. The theater is comfortable and the sound is good. The staff is small, but friendly. Snacks and popcorn are typical theater fare. I enjoyed seeing Star Wars there over the Christmas holiday.
