Firstly. The sites we looked at rated this hike as "Easy"...it is absolutely. NOT! AND..I would not recommend doing this without a guide, you could very easily get yourself into dangerous situations. The drive there is beautiful with lots of stop off/vantage points along the way (again, a good guide will give you lots of important info) then you arrive at the top car park, and the fun begins!! Firstly there is the 180mtr climb, down sheer face of the older larger crater, down rugged steps. From there across the (flattish) bottom plain of the older crater to the summit (3 hours minimum) is a case of stepping from stone to stone, up and down through gullies on and on up 2600 mtrs of rough, ROUGH ground under the blazing sun!!! It is hard!! But the rewards with the views from start to finish and the sense of power a volcano evokes really, REALLY!! Makes it worth the pain! (Don't forget, when you've finished at the top? You've got to do the whole thing in reverse, including that 180mtr climb UP the steps!!!????)

During volcanic eruptions, lava pahoehoe allow the formation of lava tubes. The lava cooled, the tunnels become available, providing a unique decor. The “Discovery” trip: It is a 3 hours walk inside the tunnel: visit of the lower part of the network, mainly large rooms (the tighter obstacle is 1m20 high and 10m long). The “Classic” trip: It is 5 hours walk: It is a cross between the top and bottom of the network. Large galleries to begin, few tight obstacles in the middle then large rooms to finish (the tighter obstacle is 1m high and 40m long). The “Sportive” trip: It is a 6 hours walk. It is the same trip than the “classic” with 1.5 hours in addition in the tunnel of Sunday (Narrow and labyrinthine). Contraindications This activity is not recommended for people suffering from heart, breathing, knee and back problem. Is this in Water? No, the cave can be wet but this is not a river, the rain is not a problem for the activity.

I've visited several musical instrument museums, mostly in big cities. This one in tiny Hell-Bourg is the best: a wonderful collection of instruments (from India, Madagascar, the Middle East and elsewhere) beautifully displayed with fantastic recordings of them on the portable audio system. Hell-Bourg village is worth visiting anyway - an attractive village in a stunning location - but I'd say this museum makes it a must-do for anyone visiting Réunion.

What a beautiful spot for a picnic or just to relax. Anse des Cascades sits on the sea, with great views of the ocean on the one side and waterfalls surrounded by green forest on the other side. There is a restaurant and a takeaway shop. We had some sandwiches from the takeaway shop at a very reasonable price. The kids really enjoyed this as there were lots of paths to explore. A must stop when visiting.
