Arrecife (/ˌærəˈsiːfeɪ/; Spanish pronunciation: [areˈsife]) is a city and municipality in the Canary Islands (Spain) situated in the centre-east of the island of Lanzarote, of which it has been the capital since 1852. The city owes its name to the rock reef ('Arrecife' is Spanish for 'reef') which covers the beach located in the city. The city also gives its name to the nearby Arrecife Airport.

Stayed 11 nights in Arrecife and most evenings went for a stroll around El Charco. Lots of bars and restaurants border one side with Bridges and causeways encircling "the puddle". Arrecife is a pleasant provincial capital and El Charco is a particularly attractive aspect of it.

Golden sand on a black volcanic island. The beach stretches about half a mile and is sheltered in a give. It's shallow for quite a way out and just warm enough for a swim. You can hire sun loungers for €3 but we used towels and their are public conveniences on the Promenade

This is a lovely square with the most beautiful church. Inside the church the architecture is wonderful and the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquillity. The main altar is wonderful but the side altars also bring their own charm to this religious experience. It is a great experience to sit or kneel in prayer and appreciate the calmness and serenity it brings.....

We visited the museum on the day we flew back home. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The 1940s building was beautiful and I loved going up to the control tower. Some of the photographs and instruments on display were fascinating. There was some information provided in English, but not really enough and I think that we would have got a lot more out of the visit with maybe a printed or audio guide that you could take around with you - perhaps the film could have English subtitles? Worth a visit.

My family and I decided to try our first escape room on cloudy afternoon in Arricefe. We were so pleased we did. It was fantastic fun and really got our grey matter working! Thoroughly recommended. We're even considering going back to try one of the other rooms tomorrow.

Worth a visit but no information in English which really means you can’t get the full experience. The location is fantastic and really worth seeing. The staff are so helpful and friendly. What a location.

The Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo-Castillo de San José, is located near Puerto Naos and Arrecife, capital of the island, and the place where César Manrique was born. It was built between 1776 and 1779 under the ruling of King Charles III. The museum’s privileged location on top of a cliff, made protection from Castillo de San Gagriel easier, and it meant it was a crucial spot to defend Arrecife and its port from the dangers the modern states posed to the Spanish Empire. When its use for defensive purposes decreased, it was left abandoned for almost a century. It was Manrique (who else), who convinced the authorities of the island to transform the ancient fortress into an art gallery that ended up opening in 1976, the Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo. Manrique started up the 1st International Visual Arts Competition with the work of Picasso, Tàpies, Miró, Mompó, Millares, Zóbel and some of his own creations that inspired one of the largest abstract art collections.
The sea sculptures are spectacular as is the setting in an old fort. Very interesting collection of modern Spanish art 10 out of ten.
