What to do and see in Arkansas, United States: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

April 6, 2022 Marlin Saiz

Living up to its billing as “The Natural State”, the state is a nature wonderland with three national forests, nearly 9,000 miles of pristine streams and rivers, awe-inspiring settings in the Ozark and Quachita mountains and sparkling lakes.

The menu of vacation experiences is an exciting one. For great golf, spas, horse racing and the Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs is the place to go. Outdoor enthusiasts love the Ozark Mountains where activities like canoeing, rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking and rock climbing are popular. The mountain village of Eureka Springs, with its streets lined with Victorian homes, is brimming with boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Wine enthusiasts love the Arkansas Wine Country, encompassing the towns of Paris, Ozark and Altus, where German style wines are produced. From its ancient mountains to the Delta flatlands leveled by the Mississippi River, the state has a diverse topography with numerous scenic drives. Try the Pig Trail, Ozark Highlands and Sylamore scenic byways in the Ozark National Forest designated by the U.S. Forest Service. Golfers love the state because greens fees are extremely affordable for great courses. A few excellent public access courses are Sage Meadows in Jonesboro, Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville and the Mountain Ranch Course in Fairfield Bay.

My wife and I decided to stay a couple of nights in Eureka Springs Arkansas recently and were looking at some of the thing visitors might be interested in. Our Hotel manager recommend we visit the FRESH HARVEST TASTING room to check out the premium olive oils and balsamic vinegars. After arriving we were greeted by Annaleis McGlothin, the tasting room guide. We have never had a more pleasent experience or met such a knowledgable and friendly guide as Annaleis. She explained the differences between their products and other commercial grade olive oils, led us through the tasing of several of their premium olive oils and balsamic vinegars, provided recipes, directions on mixing and educated us on the history of their products and why consumers should be wary of off the shelf olive oil products. Annaleis answered all of our questions and demonstrated a complete and throurough knowledge of her company's products as well as how they were made, their origins and the best uses for cooking, marinating or just dipping with bread. We highly recommend you make this part of your visit to Eureka Springs.

We stopped in this adorable little store last weekend. The beautiful fragrances called us in from the sidewalk. My husband is very sensitive to a lot of smells. Most places like this will give him an instant headache. Not this one. He actually suggested we go in which shocked me. Boy were we surprised! They have multiple fragrances for men that are not only upscale but unique. My husband loved the Black Gold, Smoke and Leather and Wild Thing. I loved the Hot Southern Nights, Breathe (eucalyptus and peppermint), Girl Crush, and Sensual. We bought several soaps, shaving soaps, Bath Salts, Cologne, lip balms and OMG the Sugar Spa Face and Body Scrubs are like none I have ever used before. They left our skin feeling like silk! The owners explained how they make the soap with the mineral water right there in the store. She was actually making soap that day. It was so cool to get a glimpse of the process. They were so nice to explain everything. They both work full time jobs and own their own business. I can’t even imagine. It was obvious how passionate they are about making quality products and giving great service. I always buy handmade soap but this is the best I have ever tried and I buy it every time we find a place that sells it. I will be ordering from here from now on. We absolutely loved everything we bought. The quality is phenomenal! The packaging is simple and environmentally friendly. They use essential oils and good quality fragrances that are paraben and phthalate free. That’s why my husband didn’t get an instant headache while we were there. We were in heaven when we got back to our hotel room. We didn’t even need to schedule a spa day, we had everything we needed to have one right in our room!!! Did I mention we purchased some amazing massage oils? It was the best weekend we’ve had in a long time and we owe it to The Bath Factory. Thank you guys for all of your help and for making such great products. Do yourself a favor. Go in there or order online. You will love everything just like we did!!

Railway Winery

Nestled in the Ozark hills along the route of the historic M&NA railroad, Railway Winery is a smalll farm winery owned and operated by Greg and Vicki Schneider. Railway Winery offers a selection of wines made from several varieties of grapes, as well as fruit wines. Come and sample the wine or enjoy a glass of your favorite on the deck or patio. Located just a scenic 8 miles north of Eureka Springs on Hwy 187 between the landmark Beaver Bridge and Highway 62.

We visited during our Eureka Springs trip and I really enjoyed stopping by. Free samples of wine were great, as well as some Gluehwine/mulled wine and moonshine. They had a very friendly and chatty cat, Ranger (sp?), who was going between tables looking for attention & crackers. I can only speak to the sweet wines that I tried, but I enjoyed all the samples and took a glass on-site and a bottle to go. Definitely quality stuff! The COVID paranoia is real in the Eureka Springs area, and here too we were seated outside only and expected to wear masks. As silly as that seems to me, I can't fault the owners for taking precautions as to avoid government-mandated fines or other penalties. One of the owners, Greg, was very pleasant to talk to and willing to share some stories about the stills he uses and some of his future plans. His wife, on the other hand, seemed fairly unfriendly and snippy - maybe just having a bad day? We all took somewhat sour impressions of her, though thankfully Greg + Ranger saved the day hospitality-wise. Free parking, easy to get to, and nestled in a nice hillside spot, I definitely recommend a stop here.

Soap Stop & Body Shop

Reviewed By hatshapedhat - Springfield, United States

Soap Stop and Body Shop is honestly one of my favorite shops in downtown Eureka Springs. It's not one of the largest stores but there is SO MUCH in that space it would be hard not to find something you didn't know you need. Don't worry though, even with all those products and scents, the shop is very well organized. And if you have questions, all of the workers I've talked with have always been very pleasant and easy to chat with. Especially Grant who helped us out this time. I will definitely be back anytime I'm in Eureka Springs.
