Anstruther /ˈænstrəðər/ ( listen) (Scots: Ainster /ˈeɪnstər/ ( listen) or /ˈɐ̟nstər/; Scottish Gaelic: Ànsruthair) is a small town in Fife, Scotland, nine miles south-southeast of St. Andrews. The two halves of the town are divided by a stream, the Dreel Burn. With a population of 3,500, it is the largest community on the Firth of Forth's north-shore coastline known as East Neuk. To the east, it merges with the village of Cellardyke.

My wife and I decided to go on an intrepid voyage to the Isle of May after bottling it for about fifteen years. After our initial trip got cancelled due to a "northern swell", we finally stepped aboard ! We had the time of our lives and both absolutely loved it. The hour long trip to the island is quite choppy but nothing too bad on what is a very comfortable little boat with a highly professional, friendly and knowledgable crew. As a bird lover, I was in awe as gannets flew overhead, razorbills dived for fish and amusing cormorants and shags nonchalantly sunbathed on the rocks. We also saw lots of gorgeous seals though sadly the legions of acclaimed puffins had already flown off for the season - but we'll be back to see them next summer ! That probably saved us from getting deafened and dive-bombed mind you ! The island itself is of outstanding natural beauty and is lovely to explore - there are nice paths, amazing views and a fascinating lighthouse that you can climb right to the top of (careful on the spiral staircase, folks !). You have to be a bit sensible and careful on your visit so it's advisable to wear good shoes as well as warm, waterproof clothing and watch your footing both on the boat and on the island (as you don't want to twist your ankle down a puffin hole or a rabbit hole !). Overall, this is an absolutely fantastic experience that my wife and I would do again in a heartbeat - Scotland at its finest ! The crew work amazingly hard and, in my opinion, are well worth a tip at the end of the journey for making it all run so smoothly.

Closed earlier than indicated on Google, so we arrived less than an hour before it closed. Staff very snippy and unapologetic. Suggested we come back the next day; less than helpful when we had driven two hours with young children to get there. I don't think I'll be back.

Nice pleasant place to sit and relax looking at the range of boats in the harbour and views beyond having an ice cream or a bag of chips from the local shops.

My friends and I visited on 27th June. It was pouring rain and we didn't know where you were, but we found you!! We were going to have soup; then smoked salmon but 'settled' on Stornoway Blackpudding served with rosti potatoes and apple and fig chutney with cute micro herbs to finish it off. It tasted as good as it looked. Service was good and we didn't really have to wait. The servers were courteous and efficient. I'm sure we'll be back to sample the rest of your menu. We know where you are now.

Anstruther Lifeboat Station is available to the public to visit for most of the year. Displays and films illustrate the history and work of the RNLI. The viewing gallery provides a close-up view of the lifeboat (when it's at home and not out on a call!)

Had a wander along here late afternoon with my wife today.
Although the views are quite scenic the actual beach itself is very small, stretching in distance for less than 1/10th mile.
It is situated directly in front of the golf course and a little way short of a play park.
In our opinion it is okay and perhaps worth viewing if you are in the locality or to take in whilst doing a Coastal Path walk, but not somewhere we would be inclined to go out of our way to view.

This course punches way over its weight on many levels. beautifully kept and well run course, only 9 holes, but some are tricky. The famous 5th hole, the Rockies needs a skilful touch.Good clubhouse to come back to for food or a drink. Very friendly staff and members.

A real hidden gem with lovely clothes and very high quality and interesting gifts.
