Amman's layered history is reflected in its diverse people and its varied architecture. Home to numerous churches and mosques, the city is home to a multidenominational and multicultural population. Even within the midst of the ultra-modern commercial center of the city there is evidence of its ancient roots, with colorful ancient souks, Roman ruins, cultural museums and monuments painting a picture of the history of the region.

Step back 2,000 years in time with a visit to the ruins of this imposing amphitheater, which once held 5,000 spectators, and is still used today for theater and entertainment.
This is a must-see in downtown Amman, enjoy the theater, have some amazing pictures, and make sure to visit the museum inside, then enjoy a meal and a dessert in downtown.

This archaeological landmark features remnants from several different cultures.
We were fortunate to arrive at the citadel about 40 mins before sunset which meant we had the most atmospheric experience watching the sunset over Amman while the birds flocked to roost, with the call to prayer playing out from the Mosque. The citadel is a real land mark sitting high above Amman so the views are spectacular over the city. The Roman amphitheater is close by, but if you don't get time to go there you get a good view of it from here. THe site itself is of great archeological importance with Roman remains ( Hercules Temple) , and those of the Palace and church. AT 2JD , this is a must when visiting Amman.

The Jordan Museum serves as a comprehensive national centre for learning and knowledge that reflects Jordan’s history and culture, and presents the Kingdom’s historic, antique and heritage property as part of the ongoing story of Jordan’s past, present, and future.
Allow yourself a *minimum* of two hours to visit this Museum - it gives an excellent comprehensive account that reflects Jordan’s history and culture, its people and its precious relics. The Dead Sea Scrolls are priceless! Make sure you go up to the first floor to take part in the interactive invitations....

The Temple of Hercules is justly one of the many ruins to see when you do a walking tour of the old Citadel on one of Amman’s highest hills. If you choose to walk up to the Citadel then the hill climbing will test your fitness, but it is worth the climb. Alternatively you can get a very cheap taxi ride up from the old part of Amman. The Temple is worth seeing but so is the rest of the amazing fortress. Don’t forget to check out the museum when you are there. They have a wonderful collection of antiquities from Amman and other parts of Jordan.

This mosque has a large blue mosaic dome and 2 minarets. It’s architecture and it’s lay out are unique. The inside prayer hall is large and impressive for it’s large ceiling & it’s interior decor. It is a must visit for any tourist visiting Amman. Would certainly very highly recommend visiting this unique mosque.

This is one of the nicest streets in Jordan. If you are lucky you will spend few hours walking one of the oldest streets in Jordan. The majority of the buildings are over 80 years old and each one has a different story. The street is filled with coffee shops and restaurants. Plenty of people walking their dogs. You have few of the the best restaurants in Jordan, like the best falafel place in Jordan (Quds), Sufra (fine dining), Wild Jordan (natural , and the oldest Chinese restaurant in Jordan. The viewing point offers a great location to see the Amman Citadel on the opposite mountain. During Summer they also have few open markets, especially on Fridays.
