What to do and see in Amersfoort, Utrecht Province: The Best Things to do

May 14, 2022 Leonardo Torrence

Monolithic gates still protect Amersfoort, a well-preserved medieval city that remains connected to its history. Built into the foundations of 13th-century defensive walls, the Muurhuizen wall houses are one of the city’s most intriguing features. Art enthusiasts should visit the Mondriaan House (birthplace of abstract artist Piet Mondriaan) and the Armando Museum, a collection of works by the famed Dutch painter.

It's a bit more inside the main plaza and you can't miss it cause it's very beautiful, not as big as the other gate but still amazing

Great to spend the day with your kids. It's very well maintained and the stuff are very helpful; a lot of different animals, playgrounds, kids train, small restaurants, gift shops, ice cream shops, etc. Watch out for bees when staying in the outdoor restaurant. Must get baby/kids stroller, the place is huge and involves a lot of walking (FYI they do provide there at €2 and deposit of €10.)

While exploring Amersfoort my friend and I came across this little brewery and we decided to go in for beer. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and made some beer recommendations based on what type of beer I liked and all the beers I tried were very tasty. I would definitely return here if I am ever in Amersfoort again.

This site has great historical value yet it has wonderful cafes in front of it for you to relax and eat and drink while enjoying the view! The lack of tourists makes the visit even more fun. The whole area is great and worth a visit. The people don't seem to be sick of tourists because the town is undiscovered.

The Koppelpoort is a city gate in Amersfoort. It is a combination of land and water gate. The name is probably derived from the East Middle Dutch word Coppel meaning meadow

This was a wonderful visit. Two rooms with information on Mondriaan, a replica of his studioconcert Paris, two video displays, and a room with art inspired by Mondriaan. The second video display on its own made the visit worthwhile; a multi media artwork on Mondriaan’s New York period. Highly recommended.

A really interesting small town museum with an above-average art collection of Dutch artists' works. Displays of local history are also very good especially World War Two. All housed in an interesting building on a canal of architectural interest in its own right.
