Avoca Museum & Historical Society

My 8 year old daughter and I visited this incredible house and really enjoyed it. I had no idea this museum existed and I am so glad we found it. Audrey and Mike gave us a spectacular and personal tour with great information presented in a kid friendly way. The grounds and the gardens were beautiful with many things to see. We look forward to going back again very soon.

English Park

If you are one of these people that like to go down a country road just to see where you end up, then Altavista is one of those little hidden gems. There isn't a lot there except good country folk, an old Rose's store (sadly going out of business), a beautiful museum, a couple of modern Hotels, a B&B, a charming small town that reminds you of Mayberry, several quaint shops and diners, and a couple of parks. I felt like I had taken a step back in time to a quiet, peaceful, less hectic place and time. What a relaxing afternoon by the river at English Park. People practicing softball and soccer, families sharing picnics, 20-somethings walking their dogs, and old men fishing down by the river. Just a breath of fresh air. Altavista has a newer section with modern eateries and a Wal-mart, but we enjoyed hanging out around the older part of town for the afternoon.

So much to look at, so many ideas for diy, and best customer service experience. The ladies there offered insight on helping decorate a blank wall at my house simply by asking a few questions and listening. I will go back!
